Men’s Golf Moves Up One Spot to Finish in Seventh at The Stack Cougar-Burro Collegiate

GOODYEAR, Ariz.---  Stan State finished in seventh place with its 22-over par 886 (302-299-285) at The Stack Cougar-Burro Collegiate in Arizona.  The Collegiate's first two rounds took place at the par-72 Verrado Golf Club in Buckeye, Ariz.  Today's final round was held at the par-72 Golf Club of Estrella in Goodyear, Ariz.  Jack Peters led the way for the Warriors with his four-over par 220, which tied him for 21st place.  In the final round today, the duo of Chris Chomyn and Ricky Sullivan each shot a four-under par 68 to each finish with a five-over par 221. 

WARRIORS: Jack Peters led the way for Stan State with his four-over par 220.  Peters shot a two-over par 74 this morning to go with his 71 and 75 from the first two days to finish with a 220.  He finished in tie for 21st place with Westminster's Xavier De La Rosa.  Chris Chomyn and Ricky Sullivan each finished with a five-over par 221 to finish in a seven-way tie for 23rd place.  Chomyn had rounds of 77, 76, and 68 while Sullivan posted rounds of 78, 75, and 69.  Finishing five strokes behind Chomyn and Sullivan was Nate Jetton with his ten-over par 226 (78-73-75).  Jetton finished in a six-way tie for 40th place.  Chase Bird shot a three-round score of 235 (76-82-77) to finish in a tie for 66th place.

SEVENTH PLACE:  As a team, Stan State (who is ranked 29th in the nation according to the SCOREBOARD rankings), finished in seventh place just two strokes behind fellow CCAA foe and No. 14 Cal State East Bay's 884 (sixth place).  After the first two rounds, the Warriors were in eighth place after shooting rounds of fourteen-over par 302 and eleven-over par 299.  Today, they shot a three-under par 285.

EAGLES/BIRDIES/PARS ANYONE: Jack Peters finished the collegiate with 35 pars and eight birdies including recording twelve pars and two birdies this morning.  Ricky Sullivan recorded 32 pars and nine birdies in the three rounds this week. Sullivan had ten pars and six birdies in the third round today.  Chris Chomyn had eight pars, five birdies, and an eagle today to finish with 30 pars, nine birdies, and one eagle.  Chase Bird had 14 pars and one birdie to finish with 33 pars, three birdies, and one eagle.  Nate Jetton had eight pars and four birdies today to finish with 25 pars and eight birdies.

TOP FIVE TEAMS: No. 1 Colorado Christian captured The Stack Cougar-Burro Collegiate with its 33-under par 831 (277-288-266).  Finishing in second place with its three-over par 867 (292-303-272) was No. 27 Colorado Mesa.  Westminster (Utah) was third with its six-over par 870 (295-298-277) followed by Western Washington with a fourteen-over par 878 (301-292-285) in fourth place and Fort Lewis in fifth place with a seventeen-over par 881 (296-298-287). 

TOP THREE INDIVIDUALS:  Colorado Christian's Adam Duncan and Colorado Mesa's Cole Beyer each tied for first place with an eleven-under par 205.  Duncan is ranked second in the nation while Beyer is 12th.  Two strokes behind them was Colardo Christian's Xavier Bighaus, who is fifth in the nation, with a nine-under par 207. 

UP NEXT:  Stan State return to the golf course, April 14-14, when the Warriors host the 50th Annual Hanny Stanislaus Invitational.  The first day of the tournament which will be 36 holes at Merced Golf & Country Club in Merced, Calif.  The final 18 holes will be played at Turlock Golf & Country Club in Turlock, Calif.  Both days will start at 8:00 a.m. with a shotgun start.  After the conclusion of the final round on April 15, Stan State will hold a luncheon ceremony with awards being presented to the winning teams and individuals.  The Warriors will recognize their two seniors in Jack Peters and Drew Pritchard
