TURLOCK, Calif.--- Stan State took a 7-2 lead after a seven-run inning this evening in the series opener, but the visiting Sonoma State Seawolves rallied to defeat the Warriors 10-7 to take this weekend's four-game series between the two teams at Warrior Field.
Ryan Leonesio led the Stan State hitting attack, going three-for-three with three runs batted in, and a run scored.
Luke Davies and
Alex Solis went a combined four-for-eight with three runs batted in and two runs scored.
Sonoma State used a two-run second inning to take an early 2-0 lead. The score remained 2-0 Seawolves until the Warrior half of the fourth inning.
Jonluke Goldman and
Arthur Navarette Jr. had back-to-back lead-off singles in the Warrior fourth. Navarette was out at second when
Flavio Perez reached on a fielder's choice to place runners at the corners. With one out, Goldman scored on a double to right field by
Luke Davies. The Warriors made it to 3-2 hosts on a two-run one-out single to left center by
Alex Solis.
Danny Murphy singled to center to place runners on first and second.
Jacob Baker drew a one-out walk to load the bases. On the first pitch he saw,
Ryan Leonesio hit a bases-clearing double down the left field line to give the Warriors a 6-2 lead.
Robert Valdivia was hit by a pitch to once again to place runners on the corners. Still with one out, Leonesio scored when Goldman reached on a fielder's choice as Stan State (12-21, 7-16 CCAA) took a 7-2 lead.
Sonoma State (10-27, 7-21 CCAA) cut the Warrior lead to 7-5 with a three-run sixth inning. The key hit in the inning was a two-run double by Max Shabestari. The Seawolves scored another run in the seventh to make it a one-run game going into the final 2.1 innings (7-6). They took the lead with a two-run eighth inning, 8-7. The guests added two insurance runs in the ninth to take a 10-7 lead into the Warriors' last at bat.
The Seawolves' reliever, Hawk Hill, recorded his second save by pitching a scoreless ninth. Herman Luna (2-2) recorded the victory for Sonoma State.
10/3: Ryan Leonesio and
Alex Solis each had their tenth multiple-hit game this evening. This was Leonesio's third three-hit game and Solis' seventh two-hit game.
Luke Davies had his fifth two-hit game for the Warriors. Leonesio's three runs batted was the second time this season he has driven in three runs and fifth time he has had a multiple-RBI game.
MOVIN' ON UP: After tonight's game,
Alex Solis and
Ryan Leonesio moved up in the record books at Stan State.
Alex Solis is third with 184 hits, tied for sixth with 99 in runs scored, and tenth in with 88 RBIs. Leonesio is tied for ninth with 34 stolen bases.
UP NEXT: The two teams will continue the four-game series tomorrow, Saturday, April 12, with a 1:00 p.m. starting doubleheader.
