Warriors Sweep Road Weekend Series from Cal State East Bay

HAYWARD, Calif.----  By taking this afternoon's series finale 6-4 from the Cal State East Bay in Hayward, Calif., the Stan State Warriors swept this weekend's series from the Pioneers.  Flavio Perez drove in what proved to be the game-winning runs with a two-out two-run double in the top of the seventh inning.  Perez finished the game, two-for-three with three runs batted in and a double.  Austin Balentine picked up his third straight victory in the start to improve to 5-3.  Noah Chelberg recorded his second save by pitching two scoreless innings of relief while giving up just one hit and striking out two. 

Robert Valdivia had a lead-off double to begin the game for the Warriors and then Luke Davies was hit by a pitch.  Each runner advanced a base on a sacrifice bunt by Arthur Navarette Jr.  With one out, Flavio Perez drove home Valdivia with a sacrifice fly for the game's first run. 

Cal State East Bay (16-26, 12-20 CCAA) took a 3-1 lead with a three-run first inning in its frame. Jaylen Hodges two-out two-run single giving the Pioneers the 3-1 lead. 
Stan State retook the lead, 4-3, with a three-run second inning.  Danny Murphy had a one-out single.  He went to second when Jacob Baker reached on a Pioneer error.  With two outs, Valdivia drove home Murphy and Baker to tie the game with a double at 3-3.  Valdivia scored on a single up the middle by Davies to give Stan State the 4-3 lead.

The Pioneers tied the game at 4-4 in the bottom of the second.  With one out, Dominick Naja walked and then stole second and third.  Camron Grant drove home Najar with the tying run with a two-out double to right field.

The game remained tied until the Stan State (18-22, 13-17 CCAA) half of the seventh.  Ryan Leonesio led off the inning reach on a Pioneer error. Valdivia advanced Leonesio to second with a bunt single.  The next Warrior hit into a double play which Leonesio was out on at second.  With two outs, Navarette singled to right field as Valdivia moved to second.  Both runners scored on a two-run double by Perez to give Stan State the 6-4 lead.
Cal State East Bay had a chance to tie the game in its last at bat.  With one out, Amayas Lamar doubled and went to third on a ground out by Najar.  Stan State reliever, Noah Chelberg, induced the next Pioneer to line out to Davies at first as Stan State swept the weekend series.

BALENTINE/CHELBERG:  Austin Balentine won his third straight game to improve ot 5-3.  He pitched seven innings, giving up seven hits and four runs, striking out four and walking two.  Noah Chelberg recorded his second save of the season by pitching two scoreless innings of relief, giving up just one hit and striking out two.

PEREZ/VALDIVIA: The left side of the Warrior infield, Flavio Perez and Robert Valdivia, went a combined five-for-eight, driving in five runs and scoring three times.  Valdivia had two doubles and Perez had one.

MOVIN' ON UP: After this weekend, Flavio Perez is now sixth in hits (163), tied for fourth in doubles (39), and seventh in home runs (17).  Robert Valdivia is fifth in hits (166) and fourth in sacrifice hits (21).  Alex Solis is first in doubles (50), tied for fourth in runs scored (103), third in hits (193), and tied for eighth in runs batted in (95).  Ryan Leonesio is tied for eighth in stolen bases (35) and seventh in sacrifice hits (19).  Jacob Baker is tied for eighth with his 35 stolen bases.

SENIOR WEEKEND:  Stan State will have its final home stand of the regular season this Friday-Sunday, April 25-27 when the Warriors face Cal State Monterey Bay.  The series will begin on Friday, April 25 with a 6:00 p.m. scheduled first pitch on Blue Chip Sponsorship Night.  The two teams will play a 1:00 p.m. starting doubleheader a week from today on Saturday, April 26.  The series will conclude on Senior Day at noon on Sunday, April 27.  Prior to the game, Stan State baseball will recognize its twenty senior in #2 Tyler Van Dyk, #3 Jacob Baker, #4 Ryan Leonesio, #6 Caleb Bertoncini, #7 Jonluke Goldman, #8 Jackson Brooks, #9 Patrick Sweeney, #12 Luke Davies, #13 Josh Ochoa, #15 Noah Chelberg, #19 Alex Solis, #21 Flavio Perez, #24 JD Madrigal, #26 Danny Murphy, #32 LaKeal Morris, #38 Greyson Gregory, #44 Quinn Oliver, #35 Reid Rasmussen, and #11 Robert Valdivia
