Warriors Sweep Oaks in Doubleheader

ATHERTON, Calif.--- The Warriors faced Menlo College for a doubleheader this afternoon, sweeping the Oaks by winning the first game 7-3 and the second game 3-0.
 
GAME 1: The Warriors (12-20) earned their first run in the top of the first. Karli DalBianco hit a one-out single and moved to second on a ground out by Shelby Frutoz. Sasha Martello singled to score DalBianco and give Stan State an early lead.
 
Menlo College (8-26) earned two in the bottom of the second to go ahead, using a pair of doubles, a single, and a fielder's choice.
 
Stan State took the lead back in the top of the third, starting with a lead-off single by Malia Babasa. Babasa stole second, and Karli DalBianco reached on an error. Shelby Frutoz walked to load the bases, and a ground out by Sasha Martello allowed Babasa to score. Allejandra Perea followed with a single and was able to go to second as DalBianco scored, putting runners on second and third. McKenna Beach reached on an error, allowing Perea to go to third and Frutoz to score. Beach then stole second base, giving Perea the opportunity to score. Avery Jolley singled, putting runners on the corners. Another error allowed Moxie Barton to reach first, sending Beach home and Jolley to second. Katie Thornsberry singled to bring Jolley home and give the Warriors a 7-2 lead.
 
The Oaks earned one in the bottom of the seventh, with one runner getting on after being hit by a pitch, then scoring them with a pair of singles.
 
PEREA: Allejandra Perea aided the offense, going one-for-three with a key hit. Perea also recorded a walk, scored a run, and batted in a run, now up to ten runs batted in as a Warrior.
 
GAME 2: The second game remained quiet through much of the game with Victoria Alarcon striking out seven and recording a shutout. Stan State found their opening in the top of the sixth with two outs as Katie Thornsberry reached first on an error. Thornsberry stole second, then Moxie Barton singled to move Thornsberry to third. Barton extended her single, taking second base. Malia Babasa reached on an error, allowing Thornsberry and Barton to score and Babasa to make it to second. Karli DalBianco followed with a single to allow Babasa to score, and the Warriors finished the game on the 3-0 score.
 
BARTON: Moxie Barton went one-for-two and scored a run. Barton also recorded a walk to give her one of her best appearances as a batter this season.
 
TAKING BASES: Katie Thornsberry and Moxie Barton kept the defense on their toes, stealing bases in the second game of the doubleheader. This is Barton's second stolen base of the season, and Thornsberry's two put her at six stolen bases this season and 39 in her career.
 
UP NEXT:  The Warriors return home on Friday, April 4th to host Sonoma State for a pair of doubleheaders beginning at 1:00 p.m. on the 4th and 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 5th.
