Women’s Basketball Shows Early Fight at Cal State Los Angeles

LOS ANGELES, Calif.---Stan State showed strong early energy Thursday night at University Gym in Los Angeles, building a first-quarter lead and staying within striking distance into halftime before falling 101–66 to Cal State Los Angeles. The Warriors trailed just 43–39 at the break after shooting efficiently in the opening half, but the Golden Eagles used a second-half surge to pull away. MilaSarai Tau scored a career-high 22 points, Alyssa Premo added 16 points, and Eryn Gardner tied her career high with 13 rebounds to pace Stan State's effort.

First Quarter
Stan State came out aggressive on both ends of the floor, opening the game on a 21–9 run behind strong interior play from Tau and efficient ball movement. The Warriors shot nearly 77 percent in the opening period and held a lead for much of the quarter before Cal State Los Angeles closed with a late push to take a 23–21 edge after one.

Second Quarter
The Warriors continued to trade baskets with the Golden Eagles in a competitive second period. Premo provided a spark offensively with timely jumpers and free throws, while Gardner controlled the glass at both ends. Stan State briefly regained the lead midway through the quarter and stayed within one possession for much of the half before Cal State Los Angeles took a 43–39 advantage into the locker room.

Third Quarter
Cal State Los Angeles (7–5, 4–3 CCAA) shifted momentum coming out of halftime, using a combination of transition scoring and perimeter shooting to open the third quarter on an extended run. The Golden Eagles outscored Stan State 30–11 in the period, stretching the margin despite continued effort from Tau in the paint and defensive rebounding from Gardner.

Fourth Quarter
Stan State continued to compete in the final period, with contributions from the bench and consistent pressure on the glass. The Warriors matched Cal State Los Angeles early in the quarter, but the Golden Eagles maintained control down the stretch to secure the final margin.
