TURLOCK, Calif.---The Stan State women's basketball team, under interim head coach
Riley Holladay, recently served the local community through three volunteer opportunities supporting Jessica's House, the Kiwanis Club and Crowell Elementary.
Jessica's House
On Oct. 1, the Warriors helped clean up following the Harvest Dinner at Jessica's House. The Turlock nonprofit provides free grief support for children, teens, young adults and their families who are grieving the death of a loved one.
Crowell Elementary Pumpkin Patch
On Oct. 9, the Warriors volunteered with the Kiwanis Club as it hosted a pumpkin patch for students at Crowell Elementary. The event gave students an opportunity to celebrate the fall season and select a pumpkin.
Carter Nelson Memorial Golf Tournament
The Warriors joined fellow student-athletes from Stan State men's basketball, golf, baseball and softball in volunteering at the annual Carter Nelson Memorial Golf Tournament at the Turlock Golf and Country Club. The event honors Carter Nelson's memory while raising funds and community support for Jessica's House.
Quotes from the Warriors
"Volunteering reminded me how important it is to give back. You never know what someone may be going through, and sometimes just showing up and being there for them can make a bigger difference than you realize. You could end up being the person someone needed that day," said
Serenity Henderson.
"Volunteering has been a reminder that we all have the ability to make a difference in someone else's life, no matter how big or small the act of kindness is," said
Grace Brown.
Through these service opportunities, the Warriors continued to make a positive impact in the community and demonstrate that their commitment extends beyond the basketball court.
