Karissa Franco and women's tennis'
Emi Mikami have been named this week's Stan State Housing and Residential Life Warriors of the Week after standout performances for their respective teams.
Franco contributed on both ends of the pitch during the Warriors' two-match CCAA weekend, highlighted by her first goal of the season in Stan State's 2-0 road victory over Cal State East Bay. Mikami opened her 2026-27 season with a perfect 3-0 singles record at the Dominican Hidden Duals.
KARISSA FRANCO – WOMEN'S SOCCER
The Warrior defender played all 180 minutes during Stan State's CCAA weekend, going the full 90 against Cal State San Bernardino before helping the Warriors rebound with a 2-0 road victory over Cal State East Bay. Franco contributed on both ends of the pitch in Sunday's victory. She helped anchor a Warrior defense that limited Cal State East Bay to three shots on goal while recording Stan State's fourth shutout of the season. Offensively, Franco scored her first goal of the season in the 78th minute off an assist from
Mandy Thao to give the Warriors a 2-0 advantage and help secure the victory.
Franco has started all 10 matches this season and has one goal and one assist for three points. The Warriors enter the week in second place in the CCAA standings with seven matches remaining in the regular season, just two points behind first-place Cal State San Bernardino.
Franco and the Warriors return to the pitch Friday, Oct. 9, when they travel to San Francisco State for a noon CCAA match. Stan State returns home Sunday, Oct. 11, to host UC Merced at 2 p.m. at Warrior Stadium.
EMI MIKAMI – WOMEN'S TENNIS
Mikami led Stan State during its season-opening weekend at the Dominican Hidden Duals in San Rafael, finishing a perfect 3-0 in singles competition.
The sophomore earned straight-set victories in all three of her matches. Mikami opened the weekend with a 6-3, 7-5 victory over Saucedo before defeating Cooper 6-1, 6-2. She completed her unbeaten weekend with a 6-1, 6-0 victory over Salvatierra.
Mikami dropped just 11 games across her three singles victories and was the only Warrior to finish the weekend unbeaten in singles. Her performance highlighted Stan State's opening competition of the 2026-27 season against PacWest opponents Dominican and Menlo.
Mikami and the Warriors return to competition Oct. 15-18 at the ITA Regionals at the Haak Tennis Complex in Fresno. Stan State will conclude the fall portion of its schedule Nov. 6-8 in San Jose, Calif., competing against San Jose State, Santa Clara, and Nevada.
The Warriors will begin their spring season in February, with the 2027 spring schedule scheduled to be announced in December.
