TURLOCK, Calif. — Cameron Taylor and Bradley Morris each hit home runs and Cameron Rosen and Jared Sawyer combined for 6.1 innings of strong relief, but Stan State fell 6-3 to Western Oregon in Sunday's series finale at Warrior Baseball Field.
The Wolves struck first in the second on a sacrifice fly, then broke the game open in the third. A pair of singles and a wild pitch brought home one run before an error extended the frame. Alex Angevine delivered an RBI double later in the inning as Western Oregon built a 4-0 advantage.
The Warriors answered in the bottom half when Taylor launched a solo home run to left field to get Stan State on the board. Stan State trimmed the deficit to 4-2 in the fourth when Mason Kelley singled and later scored on Taylor's sacrifice fly to center.
After several scoreless frames, Western Oregon added insurance in the eighth on a solo homer by Alex Harden and another run that scored following a Warrior error to make it 6-2. Morris responded with a solo shot to left in the bottom of the eighth, but the Wolves closed it out in the ninth to take the 6-3 win.
Zach Geiss (0-2) took the loss for Stan State, allowing four runs (two earned) in 2.2 innings. Rosen tossed 4.2 innings with four strikeouts and just one earned run allowed, while Sawyer worked 1.2 scoreless innings with three strikeouts to finish the game.
