LOS ANGELES, Calif. — Stan State fell to Cal State LA, 7–3, in the series finale Sunday afternoon at Reeder Field.
The Warriors (12-13, 3-5 CCAA) managed just four hits but drew 10 walks as they tried to rally late before the Golden Eagles (15-10, 5-3 CCAA) answered with two runs in the seventh to secure the win.
Cal State LA took the early lead in the second inning, scoring twice to go up 2–0. Stan State answered in the third when AJ Carter walked and moved to third on Tyler Crudo's single before scoring on a sacrifice fly from Zach Lewis, cutting the deficit to 2–1.
The Golden Eagles broke the game open in the fourth. Kadyn Victorian hit a solo home run to start the rally before RBI singles from Alberto Prado and Ben Lee pushed the lead to 5–1.
Stan State trimmed the margin in the seventh. The Warriors loaded the bases with one out before Carter drew an RBI walk and Crudo followed with another bases-loaded walk to bring the score to 5–3. However, Cal State LA quickly responded in the bottom half with an RBI single from Kai Penuelas and a sacrifice fly by Cesar Chavez to extend the lead back to four.
The Warriors threatened again in the eighth when Chris Ortiz doubled with one out but were unable to capitalize.
The Warriors finished with four hits but drew 10 walks in the contest. Tyler Crudo led Stan State at the plate, going 2-for-4 with a double, RBI and a stolen base, while Chris Ortiz also doubled and Zach Wilson added a single.
Zach Geiss (1-3) took the loss after allowing two runs, one earned, in two innings of work. Herman Luna, AJ Victoravich and Pierce Sailer combined to pitch the final six innings in relief.
Cal State LA starter Brandon Gutierrez (2-1) earned the win, allowing one run on three hits over six innings while striking out eight.
