Stan State Set for Saturday Rematch After Opening CCAA Doubleheader at No. 1 CSUSM

SAN MARCOS, Calif. — Stan State opened CCAA play Friday afternoon with a pair of road contests against No. 1 Cal State San Marcos at CSUSM Softball Field. The Warriors fell 5-0 in the opener and 6-0 in game two, moving to 11-7 overall and 0-2 in conference play.

GAME ONE: (1) Cal State San Marcos 5, Stan State 0

Cal State San Marcos capitalized on early opportunities, scoring two runs in the first inning and adding insurance in the third and fifth.

Stan State's pitching staff worked to limit further damage after the early runs. Alexandria Himes went five innings in the start before Alexis Camberos closed out the final frame in relief. The Warriors were unable to generate offense against Cougar starter Jordan Hill, who held Stan State hitless in the contest.

GAME TWO: (1) Cal State San Marcos 6, Stan State 0

The second game was tightly contested early, with Cal State San Marcos taking a 1-0 lead in the second inning. Stan State threatened in the third when Sadie Salas doubled and moved into scoring position, but the Cougars escaped the jam.

The game shifted in the fifth inning as CSUSM pushed across four runs to extend its advantage. The Cougars added a final run in the sixth.

The Warriors recorded two hits in game two and continued to compete defensively against the nation's top-ranked team.

Looking Ahead to Saturday

Stan State will return to CSUSM Softball Field on Saturday for the final two games of the four-game conference-opening series. First pitch is scheduled for 11:00 a.m., followed by a 1:00 p.m. finale.

The Warriors will look to build on adjustments made Friday and respond with energy as CCAA play continues.
