SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. — Stan State battled to the final out in both games of Monday's CCAA doubleheader at San Francisco State, falling 4-3 in the opener and 4-2 in the nightcap at SFSU Softball Field.
Stan State moves to 16-18 overall and 5-13 in CCAA play, while San Francisco State improves to 20-19 overall and 9-9 in conference action.
In game one, Stan State jumped out quickly with three runs in the first inning.
Ava Montesdeoca opened the game by getting hit by a pitch, and after
Malia Babasa and
Katelyn Bridgeman reached,
Addie Meddings delivered an RBI single to left field.
Madison Rosebrough followed with a two-run double to left center, giving the Warriors a 3-0 lead.
San Francisco State responded with two runs in the third and tied the game in the fourth before taking the lead in the sixth on an unearned run. Alexis Perez (13-7) earned the complete-game win, while
Nat Camarena (4-7) took the loss despite allowing just two earned runs over 6.0 innings.
Stan State threatened in the seventh, loading the bases with one out after a single, walk, and hit, but the rally came up just short.
In game two, the Gators built a 4-0 lead with runs in the second, third, and fifth innings. Kharime Caratachea (6-11) earned the win, while
Alexis Camberos (4-4) was charged with the loss. Perez picked up her second save of the season.
Stan State answered late, scoring in the sixth when
Moxie Barton came around to score on a fielder's choice by Montesdeoca.
The Warriors rallied again in the seventh.
Madison Rosebrough singled, Barton walked, and
Addie Meddings singled to load the bases with two outs.
Katrina Rodriguez delivered an RBI single to cut the deficit to 4-2, bringing the tying runs on base before the comeback attempt ended.
Rodriguez went 2-for-3 with an RBI in game two, while
Marley Hogue led the Warriors with two hits in game one. Rosebrough drove in two runs in the opener, and Meddings added an RBI.

Cal State San Marcos leads the conference at 20-4, followed by Cal State East Bay at 13-7. Cal Poly Humboldt sits in third at 10-8, with San Francisco State at 9-9 rounding out the top four. Cal State San Bernardino (8-10) currently holds fifth place, followed by Chico State (10-14), Cal State Monterey Bay (8-12), Cal State Dominguez Hills (9-15), and Stan State (5-13). The top five teams will advance to the CCAA Softball Championship Tournament, scheduled for May 6-9 in Hayward, Calif., as the race for postseason positioning continues.
