TURLOCK, Calif. — Stan State split its four-game CCAA series with Cal Poly Humboldt, dropping Saturday's opener 9-1 in six innings before rallying for a 5-4 victory in the regular season finale on Senior Day at Warrior Softball Field.
The Warriors finish the regular season at 21-25 overall and 10-20 in CCAA play, while the Lumberjacks move to 25-26 overall and 16-14 in conference action. The two teams also split Friday's doubleheader, with Humboldt winning 1-0 before Stan State responded with a 3-0 victory.
Prior to Saturday's finale, Stan State recognized its three seniors—Malia Babasa, McKenna Beach and Emily Bigley—for their contributions to the program.
In Saturday's first game, Cal Poly Humboldt broke open a scoreless contest with three runs in the third inning and added six more in the sixth to secure a 9-1 win.
Stan State recorded eight hits in the loss, led by Katelyn Bridgeman, who went 3-for-3 with a double. McKenna Beach added two hits, while Marley Hogue and Celine Ramos each contributed a hit. The Warriors scored their lone run in the sixth inning.
Alexis Camberos (5-7) took the loss, allowing three runs in 2.2 innings, while Alexandria Himes and Nat Camarena combined in relief.
In the series finale, Stan State used timely hitting and a late rally to earn a 5-4 victory.
Cal Poly Humboldt jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning on a two-run double by Katlyn Gifford. The Warriors answered in the bottom half when Malia Babasa drove in Moxie Barton with a sacrifice fly to cut the deficit to 2-1.
The Lumberjacks extended their lead to 4-1 in the fourth inning, capitalizing on two Warrior errors.
Stan State responded in the fifth inning when Bridgeman launched a two-run home run down the left field line to bring the Warriors within one at 4-3.
The decisive moment came in the sixth inning, as the Warriors took advantage of Humboldt miscues. After loading the bases, Stan State plated two runs on a fielding error to take a 5-4 lead.
Nat Camarena (7-9) earned the complete-game victory, allowing four runs—two earned—on nine hits.
Bridgeman led the offense, going 1-for-3 with a home run and two RBI, while Barton scored twice. Beach added two hits in the finale and provided a steady presence defensively at first base, while Hogue also contributed a hit in the win.
