TURLOCK, Calif.--- After going 1-1 during its opening weekend at the Humboldt Kickoff Classic, Stan State women's soccer continues its non-conference schedule this week with a pair of matches against teams receiving votes in the United Soccer Coaches NCAA Division II Preseason Poll. The Warriors travel to San Diego to face Point Loma on Thursday, Sept. 3, at 3:45 p.m. at PLNU Soccer Field before returning to Turlock for their 2026 home opener against Dominican on Sunday, Sept. 6, at 6 p.m. at Warrior Stadium.

James Earns First Career Win
Stan State's 2-0 victory over Central Washington on Saturday marked Adam James' first career win as a collegiate head coach. James earned the victory in his second match leading the Warriors after being named the fifth head coach in Stan State women's soccer program history prior to the 2026 season. He came to Stan State after spending the previous two seasons as an assistant coach at Azusa Pacific, where he helped guide the Cougars to back-to-back NCAA Tournament appearances in 2024 and 2025. APU captured the 2025 PacWest Championship and advanced to the NCAA Division II West Regional title match while posting consecutive 12-win seasons. James' collegiate coaching background also includes stops at Cal State San Bernardino, Benedictine College and William Jewell College.

Weekend Recap
Stan State opened the 2026 season with a 1-1 record at the Humboldt Kickoff Classic in Arcata. The Warriors fell 2-1 to Concordia University Irvine on Thursday, with Kyndra Obermeyer scoring the first goal of her collegiate career, before bouncing back with a 2-0 shutout victory over Central Washington on Saturday.

Aliah Avila scored her 18th career goal and 12th game-winner against Central Washington, while Olivia Maragos added her first goal of the season. Zara Mujica made seven saves for her eighth career shutout, while the victory marked James' first career win as a collegiate head coach.

Warriors in Review
Stan State enters the week 1-1 after splitting its first two matches at the Humboldt Kickoff Classic. The Warriors have scored three goals on 21 shots, placing 13 attempts on goal. Olivia Maragos leads the team with three points on one goal and one assist, while Aliah Avila and Kyndra Obermeyer have each scored once. Mandy Thao, Loreno Moreno and Hibah Elbeshity have each recorded an assist. In goal, Zara Mujica has posted a 1.00 goals-against average, an .800 save percentage and eight saves while recording one shutout.

Warriors in the Record Book
Aliah Avila and Zara Mujica continue to climb Stan State's career record book. Avila enters the week tied for fifth in program history with 18 career goals, tied for second with 12 game-winning goals and tied for sixth with 54 career points. Mujica ranks eighth in program history with eight career shutouts and 10th with 76 career saves after recording a seven-save shutout in the Warriors' 2-0 victory over Central Washington.

National Recognition
Stan State is receiving votes in the United Soccer Coaches NCAA Division II Women's Soccer Preseason Poll, which was released Aug. 4. This week's opponents, Point Loma and Dominican, are also receiving votes, giving the Warriors three consecutive matches against nationally recognized opponents after opening the season against Concordia University Irvine. The CCAA is also represented by No. 2 Cal Poly Pomona, while Cal State Los Angeles and Cal State San Marcos are receiving votes. The first regular-season United Soccer Coaches national poll is scheduled to be released Tuesday, Sept. 8.

Home Opener
Sunday's match against Dominican will mark Stan State's 2026 home opener and begin a three-match homestand at Warrior Stadium. The Warriors are 31-13-7 at home since the start of the 2021 season. Stan State will also host Stanislaus United Soccer Club in a scrimmage on Friday, Sept. 11, at 6:30 p.m. Following the scrimmage, the Warriors will open CCAA play at home against Cal State Monterey Bay on Friday, Sept. 18, at 4 p.m. before hosting Cal State Dominguez Hills on Sunday, Sept. 20, at 11 a.m.

Scouting Point Loma
Point Loma, which is receiving votes in the United Soccer Coaches NCAA Division II Preseason Poll, enters Thursday's match 1-1 after splitting a pair of road matches to open the season. The Sea Lions fell 6-2 at UCCS on Thursday before bouncing back with a 3-1 victory at MSU Denver on Saturday. Point Loma has scored five goals through two matches while averaging 12 shots per contest.

Emma Naftzger leads the Sea Lions with two goals, one assist and five points, while Priya Torres and Abby Wright each have a goal and an assist. Maddy Saruwatari has also scored once, recording the game-winning goal. Bea Levi has played all 180 minutes in goal for Point Loma.

Series History vs. Point Loma
Thursday's match will mark the first-ever meeting between Stan State and Point Loma.

Scouting The Penguins
Dominican, which is receiving votes in the United Soccer Coaches NCAA Division II Preseason Poll, enters the week 1-1 after splitting its first two matches. The Penguins opened the season with a 1-0 victory over Northwest Nazarene before falling 1-0 at Chico State. Dominican will host Menlo on Tuesday at 1 p.m. and San Francisco State on Thursday at 4 p.m. before traveling to Turlock for Sunday's match.

Ayla Moore has scored Dominican's lone goal of the season and leads the team with two points. Goalkeeper Michelle Salas Viniegra has played all 180 minutes, allowed just one goal while recorded eight saves, an .889 save percentage and one shutout. Through its first two matches, Dominican has allowed just one goal despite being outshot 22-6.

Series History vs. Dominican
Stan State is 7-0-1 all-time against Dominican, including a 4-0-1 record in Turlock and 3-0 mark in San Rafael. The Warriors won the most recent meeting 3-1 on Sept. 10, 2023, in Turlock after the teams played to a 2-2 draw on Aug. 25, 2022. Prior to that draw, Stan State had won the first six meetings in the series. The programs first met on Aug. 31, 2000, with the Warriors earning a 2-0 road victory.

Fall Season Tickets Available for Warrior Athletics
Season tickets for the 2026 fall season are available for Warrior Athletics home events. Family passes are $120 and include admission for two adults and up to four children, while individual season tickets are $60. Single-game tickets are $12 for adults and $7 for children ages 5-17 and seniors ages 55 and older. Stan State Athletics will be cashless for all ticket purchases during the 2026-27 academic year.
