TURLOCK, Calif.--- Stan State women's soccer begins CCAA play this week with a pair of matches at Warrior Stadium. The Warriors host Cal State Monterey Bay on Friday, Sept. 18, at 4 p.m. before welcoming Cal State Dominguez Hills on Sunday, Sept. 20, at 11 a.m. Stan State enters conference play with a 1-1-2 overall record and is unbeaten in its last three matches.

James Leads Warriors into CCAA Play
First-year head coach Adam James will lead Stan State into CCAA play for the first time this weekend. James was named the fifth head coach in program history prior to the 2026 season and has guided the Warriors to a 1-1-2 record through his first four matches. Stan State enters conference play unbeaten in its last three contests, including a 2-0 victory over Central Washington that gave James his first career win as a collegiate head coach. James spent two seasons as an assistant coach at Azusa Pacific, helping the Cougars to back-to-back NCAA Tournament appearances and the 2025 PacWest Championship.

Last Time Out
Stan State earned a pair of draws against regionally ranked opponents in its most recent matches, playing Point Loma to a 1-1 draw in San Diego before battling Dominican to a scoreless draw in its home opener. Aliah Avila scored the Warriors' goal at Point Loma, while Zara Mujica combined for nine saves over the two matches and posted a shutout against Dominican.

Warriors in Review
Stan State has scored four goals while allowing three through its first four matches. The Warriors are averaging 11 shots per match and have placed 25 of their 44 attempts on goal. Stan State's defense has held its opponents to 10.5 shots per match and has recorded two shutouts.

Avila leads the Warriors with two goals and four points, including one game-winning goal. Olivia Maragos has one goal and one assist for three points, while Kyndra Obermeyer has scored once. Loreno Moreno, Mandy Thao and Hibah Elbeshity have each recorded an assist.

Mujica has played all 360 minutes in goal and carries a 0.75 goals-against average, an .850 save percentage and 17 saves to go along with two shutouts.

Unbeaten in Three
After dropping its season opener 2-1 to Concordia University Irvine, Stan State has gone unbeaten in three consecutive matches. The Warriors defeated Central Washington 2-0 before earning consecutive draws against Point Loma and Dominican. Stan State has allowed just one goal during its three-match unbeaten streak.

Among the CCAA Leaders
Aliah Avila enters CCAA play among the conference leaders in several offensive categories. The Stan State senior is tied for fifth in the CCAA with two goals and ranks eighth with one game-winning goal. Avila also ranks fifth in the conference with seven shots on goal through four matches.

Zara Mujica ranks among the CCAA's top goalkeepers in several categories. The senior is third in the conference with 17 saves and 4.25 saves per match and third with two shutouts. Mujica also ranks eighth with a 0.75 goals-against average and is tied for third with an .850 save percentage.

NCAA Statistical Leaders
As of Sept. 10, Aliah Avila ranks eighth in NCAA Division II with an .875 shot accuracy, having placed seven of her eight attempts on goal through four matches. Zara Mujica is tied for 23rd nationally with two shutouts. Avila ranks second in the CCAA in shot accuracy, while Mujica is third in the conference in shutouts.

Warriors in the Record Book
Aliah Avila and Zara Mujica enter CCAA play among Stan State's career record holders. Avila has 19 career goals and 55 career points, ranking tied for sixth in program history in goals and sixth in points. She also is tied for second in program history with 12 career game-winning goals. Mujica ranks 10th in program history with 85 career saves and has recorded eight career shutouts. She has two shutouts this season while posting a 0.75 goals-against average and an .850 save percentage through four matches.

Regional Recognition
Stan State is ranked No. 10 in the United Soccer Coaches NCAA Division II West Region Poll. The Warriors have already faced three teams ranked in the region, including No. 2 Concordia University Irvine, No. 6 Dominican and No. 7 Point Loma. Cal Poly Pomona is ranked No. 1 in the region, followed by Concordia University Irvine, Cal State Los Angeles, Seattle Pacific and Cal Poly Humboldt in the top five. The next United Soccer Coaches regional and national polls are scheduled to be released Tuesday, Sept. 15.

Mujica Named FloCollege/CCAA Defensive Player of the Week
Zara Mujica was named the FloCollege/CCAA Women's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week on Sept. 8 following her performances against Point Loma and Dominican. The senior goalkeeper allowed just one goal over 180 minutes while recording nine saves and a shutout as Stan State went unbeaten in the two matches. Mujica made seven saves in the Warriors' 1-1 draw at Point Loma, including a penalty-kick save in the 75th minute that preserved the tie.

She followed with two saves in Stan State's scoreless draw against Dominican for her second shutout of the season.

Home Field
Stan State has been tough to beat at Warrior Stadium in recent seasons. Since the start of the 2021 season, the Warriors are 31-13-8 at home. Stan State played Dominican to a scoreless draw in its 2026 home opener and will host its first two CCAA matches of the season this weekend.

Scouting Cal State Monterey Bay
Cal State Monterey Bay enters Friday's CCAA opener unbeaten at 2-0-2. The Otters opened the season with a scoreless draw against Western Washington before defeating Hawaii Pacific 5-1 and Chaminade 3-1 and playing Jessup to a 2-2 draw. CSUMB has scored 10 goals while allowing four and is averaging 19.3 shots and 2.5 goals per match.

Miye Kodama leads the Otters with three goals, six points and two game-winning goals. Juliana Dow has two goals and two assists for six points, while Gianna Foss has two goals, one assist and five points. Ella Schug has added one goal and two assists. Willow Baltazar has played all 360 minutes in goal, posting a 1.00 goals-against average with nine saves and one shutout.

All 10 of Cal State Monterey Bay's goals this season have come in the second half.

Series History vs. Cal State Monterey Bay
Stan State is 28-6-3 against Cal State Monterey Bay since the series began in 2000, including a 15-1-2 record against the Otters in Turlock. The Warriors won the most recent meeting 2-0 on Oct. 26, 2025, in Seaside, with Aliah Avila and Makeila Yancey scoring and Zara Mujica recording three saves in the shutout.

The most recent meeting at Warrior Stadium ended in a 2-2 draw on Oct. 27, 2023. Avila scored in the 29th minute and later assisted on Shauna Johnston's goal in the 76th minute that gave Stan State a 2-1 lead before the Otters equalized on a penalty kick in the 79th minute. Stan State outshot CSUMB 16-11, including a 7-4 advantage in shots on goal.

Scouting Cal State Dominguez Hills
Cal State Dominguez Hills enters the week 2-2 after splitting its first four non-conference matches. The Toros defeated Westmont 1-0 and Northwest Nazarene 2-1 while falling 2-1 at Vanguard and 2-0 to Biola. CSUDH will travel to Merced to face UC Merced on Friday at 5 p.m. before visiting Stan State on Sunday.

Lexie Jimenez and Alexis Delgado lead the Toros with four points each. Jimenez has scored a team-high two goals, including one game-winner, while Delgado has one goal, two assists and a game-winning goal. Leilani Fortuna-Ramos has also scored once. Berlin Alcala and Marlies Nauman have split time in goal, with Alcala recording six saves without allowing a goal in 135 minutes of action.

Series History vs. Cal State Dominguez Hills
Cal State Dominguez Hills leads the all-time series with Stan State 19-13, including a 10-6 record against the Warriors in Turlock. Stan State, however, has won eight of the last 10 meetings, including seven consecutive victories from 2017 through 2023.

The Warriors won the most recent meeting 5-0 on Oct. 31, 2025, in Carson, their largest margin of victory in series history. Aliah Avila opened the scoring on a penalty kick before Olivia Maragos scored twice, while Grace Fabionar and Brynn Phillips also found the back of the net. Avila added an assist on Fabionar's goal. Zara Mujica played the first 78 minutes in goal before Malia Allen finished the combined shutout.

The Toros won the most recent meeting at Warrior Stadium 5-2 on Oct. 4, 2024. Stan State received goals from Sabrina Cabrera and Makeila Yancey, with Avila assisting on Yancey's second-half goal. The Warriors held a 17-8 advantage in shots despite the setback.

Fall Season Tickets Available for Warrior Athletics
Season tickets for the 2026 fall season are available for Warrior Athletics home events. Family passes are $120 and include admission for two adults and up to four children, while individual season tickets are $60. Single-game tickets are $12 for adults and $7 for children ages 5-17 and seniors ages 55 and older. Stan State Athletics is cashless for all ticket purchases during the 2026-27 academic year.
