TURLOCK, Calif.---Stan State takes its six-match unbeaten streak on the road this weekend for a pair of CCAA matches in Southern California. The Warriors will face No. 1 nationally ranked Cal State Los Angeles on Friday, Sept. 25, at 4 p.m. at University Stadium before traveling to Cal State San Marcos for a 2 p.m. match on Sunday, Sept. 27, at The Cage. Stan State enters the weekend 2-2-4 overall and 0-0-2 in CCAA play after earning a pair of draws during the opening weekend of conference action.

POWELL IN FOURTH SEASON AT HELM
Stan State head coach John Powell is in his fourth season leading his alma mater and sixth season overall as a collegiate head coach. Powell is 30-20-14 at Stan State with a .578 winning percentage. His 30 victories rank third in program history, trailing only Dana Taylor (91) and Eric Mild (42).

Powell guided the Warriors to a 17-2-1 record in 2025, their first CCAA Tournament Championship since 2012 and deepest NCAA postseason run with an appearance in the NCAA Division II Third Round. Stan State also spent two weeks ranked No. 1 nationally and established a program-record 14-match unbeaten streak.

Five Warriors earned United Soccer Coaches All-America honors in 2025, led by First Team selections Gerardo Flores and Ian Reis. Angel Ruiz-Hernandez and Samuel Villanueva earned Second Team honors, while Emmanuel Duran was named to the Third Team. Powell was named CCAA Coach of the Year, and the staff earned United Soccer Coaches West Region Coaching Staff of the Year honors.

Powell's current staff features three former Stan State soccer players in Eduardo Lopez, Jenna Zuniga and Reis. Lopez played for the Warriors from 2010-13, Zuniga played for the women's program from 2017-21 before competing professionally in Sweden and Germany, and Reis joined the staff as a student assistant after earning First Team All-America and CCAA Tournament Defensive MVP honors in 2025.

OPENING WEEKEND RECAP
Stan State went 0-0-2 during the opening weekend of CCAA play, battling Cal State Monterey Bay to a 1-1 draw Friday before playing Cal State Dominguez Hills to a scoreless draw Sunday. The Warriors outshot their opponents 24-17 and held a 10-6 advantage in corner kicks over the two matches.

Adrian Yepez scored the equalizer against CSUMB off an assist from Michael Daley and led Stan State with seven shots and three shots on goal during the weekend. Dylan Isasi allowed just one goal in 180 minutes and finished with a 0.50 goals-against average while recording his second shutout of the season against CSUDH.

WARRIORS IN REVIEW
Stan State enters the road trip 2-2-4 overall and 0-0-2 in CCAA play while riding a six-match unbeaten streak. The Warriors are 2-0-4 during the streak after dropping their first two matches of the season.

Through eight matches, Stan State has scored 12 goals and recorded 15 assists while averaging 1.50 goals and 12.4 shots per match. Alexis Cervantes leads the Warriors with five goals and 10 points, while Yepez has two goals and a team-high four assists for eight points. Emmanuel Duran and Gerardo Flores each have three points, while Jose Ponce has three assists.

Isasi has played all 720 minutes in goal, recording 22 saves with a 1.38 goals-against average and two shutouts.

UNBEATEN AT WARRIOR STADIUM
Stan State completed its six-match hom estand unbeaten with a 2-0-4 record. The Warriors earned victories over Saint Martin's and Dominican while recording draws against Simon Fraser, Hawaii Pacific, Cal State Monterey Bay and Cal State Dominguez Hills.

The Warriors outscored their opponents 10-6 during the homestand and posted two shutouts, including a 2-0 victory over Dominican and Sunday's 0-0 draw against CSUDH. Stan State is now 10-1-5 over its last 16 matches at Warrior Stadium dating back to the 2025 season.

CCAA LEADERS
Stan State has several players among the CCAA's offensive leaders. Cervantes leads the conference with 21 shots, ranks third with five goals and 11 shots on goal, and is fifth with 10 points. Yepez ranks fourth in the CCAA with four assists and sixth with 19 shots, while Ponce is seventh with three assists.

Defensively, Isasi ranks fifth in the CCAA with a 1.38 goals-against average and seventh with two shutouts. He is also 10th with 22 saves and a .667 save percentage. Isasi has played all 720 minutes in goal for the Warriors this season.

NCAA LEADERS
As of Sept. 20, Stan State ranks 24th nationally in NCAA Division II with 15 total assists. The Warriors also rank third in the CCAA with 1.88 assists per match and second in the conference in total assists.
Individually, Dylan Isasi is tied for first nationally with 720 goalkeeper minutes played and ranks 32nd with two shutouts. Adrian Yepez ranks 17th nationally with four assists, while Alexis Cervantes ranks 22nd with five goals and 29th with 0.71 goals per match. Cervantes also leads the CCAA with 3.00 shots per match.

The next United Soccer Coaches NCAA Division II national rankings are scheduled to be released Tuesday, Sept. 22. Cal State Los Angeles was ranked no. 1 and Cal State San Bernardino in last week's rankings.

WARRIOR RECORD BOOK
Yepez enters the weekend third on Stan State's career assists list with 12, trailing only Samuel Villanueva with 17 and Nolan Holdridge with 15. Yepez has seven goals and 12 assists for 26 points in 46 career matches. He is three points shy of the career top 10 in points and has recorded three game-winning goals during his Warrior career.

Duran is tied for ninth on Stan State's career goals list with 11, joining Josh Santillan, Patrick Carey and Rigoberto Gonzalez. Duran has 11 goals and four assists for 26 points in 28 career matches. He is one goal shy of Tony Amaral for eighth on the career goals list and three points shy of the career top 10 in points. Duran has also recorded four career game-winning goals.

Flores enters the road trip with 10 career goals, seven assists and 27 points in 28 matches. He is one goal shy of joining Duran and three others in ninth on Stan State's career goals list and two points shy of the career top 10 in points. Flores has six career game-winning goals, including five during his All-America season in 2025.

SCOUTING NO. 1 CAL STATE LA
No. 1 Cal State LA enters Friday's match unbeaten at 6-0-1 overall and 1-0-1 in CCAA play. The Golden Eagles won their first six matches before playing Cal State Monterey Bay to a 0-0 draw Sunday in Seaside. They opened conference play with a 3-0 victory over Cal Poly Pomona.

Cal State LA has yet to allow a goal this season, outscoring its opponents 11-0 through seven matches. The Golden Eagles are averaging 1.57 goals per match while holding opponents to 7.4 shots per contest.
Jose Lopez leads the Golden Eagles with three goals, one assist and seven points, including two game-winning goals. Jose Mariscal and Angel Sandres each have two goals and five points, while Emil Kischka has a team-high three assists to go with one goal and five points.

Abraham Ramirez has played all 630 minutes in goal and has not allowed a goal, recording 21 saves and seven shutouts. Cal State LA has not surrendered a goal in either half through its first seven matches.

SERIES HISTORY VS. NO. 1 CAL STATE LA
Cal State LA leads the series against Stan State 17-2-2 since 2007. The Warriors are looking for their first victory in Los Angeles, where they are 0-9 against the Golden Eagles.

Stan State won last season's meeting 2-1 at Warrior Stadium. Cal State LA took a 1-0 lead in the fifth minute before Flores tied the match in the 15th minute off an assist from Landon Leal Ruiz. Cervantes scored the game-winner in the 72nd minute off an assist from current Stan State assistant coach Ian Reis. The victory snapped an eight-match losing streak to the Golden Eagles and was Stan State's first win in the series since a 4-0 victory in 2010.

The Warriors' last trip to Los Angeles came in 2023, when they battled Cal State LA before falling 3-2. Stan State twice erased one-goal deficits, with Julian Madrigal tying the match at 1-1 in the 18th minute and Edgar Castaneda making it 2-2 in the 51st. Cal State LA's Bryan Ortega scored the eventual game-winner in the 59th minute. Stan State held a 6-2 advantage in corner kicks.

The programs have also met twice in the postseason during this stretch. Stan State and Cal State LA played to a 0-0 draw in the 2014 CCAA Tournament before the Warriors advanced 4-2 on penalty kicks. The following season, the teams played to a 1-1 draw in the CCAA Tournament in Pomona, with Cal State LA advancing 3-0 on penalty kicks.

SCOUTING CAL STATE SAN MARCOS
Cal State San Marcos enters the week 4-2-1 overall and 1-1 in CCAA play. The Cougars opened conference play with a 2-1 road victory over Fresno Pacific before falling 4-1 to Cal State San Bernardino on Sunday. CSUSM will host Cal State Monterey Bay on Friday at 3 p.m. before welcoming Stan State on Sunday at 2 p.m.

The Cougars have scored 13 goals through seven matches while averaging 1.86 goals per contest. CSUSM has been particularly productive in the second half, scoring nine of its 13 goals after halftime.
Cisco Avila leads CSUSM with four goals and eight points while also recording two game-winning goals. Blake Haseyama has two goals and a team-high two assists for six points, while Matthew Ibarra and Andrew Valencia each have two goals and five points.

Yoel Vazquez has played 604 minutes in goal, posting a 4-2-1 record with a 1.64 goals-against average, 29 saves, a .725 save percentage and two shutouts.

SERIES HISTORY VS. CAL STATE SAN MARCOS
Cal State San Marcos leads the series against Stan State 5-4-2 since the teams first met in 2015. The Warriors are 1-3-1 in San Marcos but enter Sunday's match riding a three-match winning streak against the Cougars.

Stan State defeated CSUSM twice during its historic 2025 season. On Senior Day at Warrior Stadium, Sebastian Carbajal scored off a Yepez assist just 2:22 into the second half to lift the Warriors to a 1-0 victory. Angel Ruiz-Hernandez made seven saves in the shutout as Stan State improved to 11-0-1 at the time.

The teams met again less than a month later in the CCAA Tournament Championship match at Cardinale Stadium in Seaside. After a scoreless first half, Daley scored the game-winner in the 58th minute off an assist from Villanueva. Villanueva made it 2-0 in the 65th minute off an assist from Cervantes before Carbajal capped the 3-0 victory in the 81st minute off an assist from Daley. The victory gave Stan State its first CCAA Tournament Championship since 2012.

Stan State's last trip to San Marcos came on Nov. 1, 2024, when Yepez scored in the 88th minute off an assist from Jacob Ramirez to give the Warriors a 1-0 victory at The Cage. The Warriors outshot the Cougars 16-15, including an 8-5 advantage in shots on goal, while recording five saves to preserve the shutout. That victory began Stan State's current three-match winning streak against CSUSM.

Over the last 10 meetings, Stan State is 4-4-2 against Cal State San Marcos.
