TURLOCK, Calif.--- Stan State women's soccer takes its five-match unbeaten streak on the road this week for a pair of CCAA matches in Southern California. The Warriors face No. 25 Cal State Los Angeles on Friday, Sept. 25, at 7 p.m. at University Stadium before traveling to San Marcos to face Cal State San Marcos on Sunday, Sept. 27, at 11 a.m. at The Cage. Stan State enters the weekend 3-1-2 overall and 2-0 in CCAA play after beginning its conference schedule with home victories over Cal State Monterey Bay and Cal State Dominguez Hills.

James Leads Warriors into CCAA Road Play
First-year head coach Adam James has guided Stan State to a 3-1-2 record through his first six matches, including a 2-0 start in CCAA play. James joined the Warriors after spending two seasons as an assistant coach at Azusa Pacific, where he helped the Cougars make back-to-back NCAA Tournament appearances and capture the 2025 PacWest Championship. His coaching background also includes time at Cal State San Marcos and San Diego State.
James earned his first collegiate head coaching victory with Stan State's 2-0 win over Central Washington on Aug. 29 and has guided the Warriors to a five-match unbeaten streak heading into their first CCAA road trip of the season.

Weekly Review
Stan State began CCAA play with a 2-0 weekend at Warrior Stadium, defeating Cal State Monterey Bay 2-1 on Friday before shutting out Cal State Dominguez Hills 3-0 on Sunday. The Warriors outscored their opponents 5-1 and held a 35-20 advantage in shots over the two matches. Olivia Maragos led Stan State with two goals, one assist and five points, while Aliah Avila recorded two assists. Hibah Elbeshity and Franchesca Maiden each scored the first goals of their collegiate careers against Cal State Monterey Bay, with Maiden's goal proving to be the game-winner, while Kyndra Obermeyer scored in Sunday's victory. Zara Mujica recorded 12 saves, a .923 save percentage and a 0.50 goals-against average while allowing just one goal in 180 minutes.

Warriors in Review
Stan State enters the week 3-1-2 overall and 2-0 in the CCAA while riding a five-match unbeaten streak. The Warriors have scored nine goals and allowed four through six matches, averaging 1.50 goals and 13.2 shots per match while placing 59.5 percent of their attempts on goal. Maragos leads Stan State with three goals, two assists and eight points, while Avila has two goals, two assists and six points. Obermeyer has added two goals, while Elbeshity and Maiden have each scored once. Mujica has played all 540 minutes in goal, posting a 0.67 goals-against average, an .879 save percentage, 29 saves and three shutouts.

Maragos Records Second Career Brace
Maragos recorded the second brace of her Stan State career in Sunday's 3-0 victory over Cal State Dominguez Hills, scoring just 38 seconds into the match before adding her second goal in the 21st minute. She also assisted on Obermeyer's second-half goal to finish with a career-high five points. Both of Maragos' career braces have come against the Toros, with her first coming in Stan State's 5-0 victory at Cal State Dominguez Hills on Oct. 31, 2025, in Carson.

Among the CCAA Leaders
Maragos and Avila rank among the CCAA's top 10 in several offensive categories. Maragos ranks fourth in the conference with three goals, fifth with 17 shots, fifth with 10 shots on goal, fifth with eight points and seventh with two assists. Avila ranks second in the CCAA with 13 shots on goal, sixth with two assists, eighth with 15 shots and ninth with six points. Avila, Maiden and Maragos are sixth, seventh and eighth, respectively, with one game-winning goal apiece, while Obermeyer ranks 10th with two goals.

Mujica ranks among the CCAA's top five in each of the listed goalkeeper categories. She is third with 4.83 saves per match, fourth with 29 saves and an .879 save percentage, fourth with three shutouts and fifth with a 0.67 goals-against average.

NCAA Statistical Rankings
Stan State ranks among the top 20 in NCAA Division II in two categories through matches of Sept. 20. The Warriors rank 17th nationally and second in the CCAA with a .595 shot accuracy and 20th nationally and second in the conference with an .879 save percentage.

Individually, Avila leads NCAA Division II with an .867 shot accuracy, having placed 13 of her 15 attempts on goal. Avila also ranks 29th nationally and second in the CCAA with 2.17 shots on goal per match. Mujica ranks 29th nationally and fourth in the CCAA with an .879 save percentage.

Warriors in the Record Book
Avila enters the week ranked among Stan State's career top 10 in four offensive categories. The senior ranks fifth in program history with 19 career assists and fifth with 58 career points. She is tied for sixth with Mosey Murgia and Sadie Ortiz with 19 career goals and is tied with Jade Poon for second with 12 career game-winning goals. Avila is two assists away from tying Emily Reiles for fourth.

Mujica also ranks among Stan State's career goalkeeper leaders. The senior is tied with Amanda Leal for ninth in program history with 97 career saves and ranks eighth with nine career shutouts. Mujica needs one save to move into sole possession of ninth and is 13 saves away from tying Alexia Estrada for eighth with 110.

National Recognition
Stan State will await the next United Soccer Coaches NCAA Division II national and West Region polls, which are scheduled to be released Tuesday, Sept. 22. The Warriors enter the new week 3-1-2 overall and riding a five-match unbeaten streak after opening CCAA play with consecutive victories over Cal State Monterey Bay and Cal State Dominguez Hills.

Scouting No. 25 Cal State Los Angeles
No. 25 Cal State Los Angeles enters Friday's match 4-1-2 overall and 1-1 in the CCAA. The Golden Eagles opened conference play with a 2-0 loss to Cal Poly Pomona before rebounding with a 2-0 road victory over Cal State Monterey Bay. Cal State LA began the season 3-0 before earning consecutive 1-1 draws against Point Loma and Vanguard.

The Golden Eagles have scored 10 goals while allowing five through seven matches. Celine Gehrig leads Cal State LA with two goals and five points, while Luna Chavez has one goal and a team-high three assists for five points. Analise Quintero has scored twice and has four points, while Briana Chagolla has one goal and two assists. Eight different Golden Eagles have scored this season.

Kendyl Sumlin has played all 630 minutes in goal, posting a 0.71 goals-against average and an .839 save percentage with 26 saves and three shutouts. Cal State LA has held five of its seven opponents to one goal or fewer, including three shutouts.

Series History vs. Cal State Los Angeles
Stan State leads the all-time series with Cal State Los Angeles 15-14-5. The Warriors are 6-6-4 against the Golden Eagles in Los Angeles and 13-12-5 in conference meetings.  Stan State won last year's meeting 1-0 on Oct. 5, 2025, at Warrior Stadium. Maragos came off the bench to score the match's only goal, while Haylee Sousa recorded the assist. Mujica made seven saves to earn the shutout as the Warriors overcame a 17-10 disadvantage in shots.

The most recent meeting in Los Angeles ended in a scoreless draw on Oct. 22, 2023. Friday will mark the Warriors' first trip to Cal State LA since that match.

Scouting Cal State San Marcos
Cal State San Marcos enters the week unbeaten at 2-0-5 overall and 0-0-2 in the CCAA. The Cougars opened conference play with a 1-1 draw at Fresno Pacific before playing Cal State San Bernardino to a scoreless draw. CSUSM will face Cal State Monterey Bay on Friday before hosting Stan State on Sunday morning.

The Cougars have scored eight goals while allowing just five through seven matches and have recorded three shutouts. Nani Kia'aina and Brittany Brown lead CSUSM with two goals and four points apiece, while Brianna Delgado has one goal and a team-high two assists for four points. Abby LaRocca, Lily Jensen and Maryn Rogers have each scored once.

Keira Patterson and Jordan Stemberga have split time in goal. Patterson is 1-0-3 with a 1.00 goals-against average, 12 saves and one shutout in four matches, while Stemberga is 1-0-2 with a 0.33 goals-against average, four saves and two shutouts in three matches. As a team, CSUSM carries a 0.71 goals-against average into the week.

Series History vs. Cal State San Marcos
Stan State leads the all-time series with Cal State San Marcos 8-2-1 and has won eight of the last 10 meetings. The Warriors are 4-1-1 in San Marcos and have won each of the last two meetings overall.  Stan State won last year's meeting 2-1 on Oct. 19, 2025, at Warrior Stadium. Shauna Johnston gave the Warriors a 1-0 lead in the fourth minute off an assist from Reyna Dismukes before the Cougars tied the match in the 19th minute. Avila scored the game-winner in the 77th minute off an assist from Olivia Kamm.

The Warriors also won 2-1 in their most recent trip to The Cage on Nov. 1, 2024. Cal State San Marcos took a 1-0 lead with just 29 seconds remaining in the first half, but Stan State responded immediately after halftime. Jocelin Roa tied the match just 37 seconds into the second half off assists from Avila and Kaley Miller. Avila then scored the game-winner at the 47:51 mark off another assist from Miller, giving the Warriors two goals in the opening 2:51 of the second half. Stan State has won three consecutive matches in San Marcos.
