TURLOCK, Calif.---Stan State returns home Friday, Oct. 2, to host No. 8 Cal State San Bernardino at 4 p.m. at Warrior Stadium before heading back on the road Sunday, Oct. 4, to face Cal State East Bay at 11:30 a.m. at the UCSF Health Oakland Roots & Soul Performance Center in Alameda.

POWELL IN FOURTH SEASON AT HELM
Stan State head coach John Powell is in his fourth season leading his alma mater and sixth season overall as a collegiate head coach. Powell is 30-22-14 at Stan State with a .561 winning percentage. His 30 victories rank third in program history, trailing only Dana Taylor (91) and Eric Mild (42).

Powell guided the Warriors to a 17-2-1 record in 2025, their first CCAA Tournament Championship since 2012 and deepest NCAA postseason run with an appearance in the NCAA Division II Third Round. Stan State also spent two weeks ranked No. 1 nationally and established a program-record 14-match unbeaten streak.

Five Warriors earned United Soccer Coaches All-America honors in 2025, led by First Team selections Gerardo Flores and Ian Reis. Angel Ruiz-Hernandez and Samuel Villanueva earned Second Team honors, while Emmanuel Duran was named to the Third Team. Powell was named CCAA Coach of the Year, and the Stan State staff earned United Soccer Coaches West Region Coaching Staff of the Year honors.

HOME FIELD ADVANTAGE UNDER POWELL
Stan State is 14-8-9 at Warrior Stadium since Powell took over the program in 2023. The Warriors went 8-1-1 at home during their historic 2025 season and are unbeaten at Warrior Stadium this season at 2-0-4. Stan State enters Friday's match against No. 8 Cal State San Bernardino with a 10-1-5 record over its last 16 home matches dating back to the beginning of the 2025 season.

WEEKEND RECAP
Stan State went 0-2 on its Southern California road trip, falling 2-1 at No. 1 Cal State LA on Friday before a 3-1 setback at Cal State San Marcos on Sunday. The Warriors struck first in both matches, with Alexis Cervantes giving Stan State a 1-0 halftime lead against Cal State LA and Duran scoring in the ninth minute at CSUSM. Cervantes and Duran each scored once on the trip, while Luis Saldana and Christian Brenes recorded assists. Dylan Isasi made 11 saves over the two matches, including a career-high 10 against the Golden Eagles.

Cervantes' goal against Cal State LA was the first goal allowed by the Golden Eagles this season after they had opened the year with seven consecutive shutouts. Stan State carried the 1-0 advantage into halftime before Cal State LA scored twice in the second half.

WARRIORS IN REVIEW
Stan State enters the weekend 2-4-4 overall and 0-2-2 in CCAA play while remaining unbeaten at Warrior Stadium with a 2-0-4 home record. Through 10 matches, the Warriors have scored 14 goals and recorded 17 assists. 

Cervantes leads the offense with six goals and 12 points, while Adrian Yepez has two goals and a team-high four assists for eight points. Duran has two goals and one assist for five points. Flores has one goal and one assist, while Jose Ponce has three assists.

Isasi has played all 900 minutes in goal, recording 33 saves with a 1.60 goals-against average and two shutouts.

STRENGTH OF SCHEDULE
Stan State has faced a challenging schedule through its first 10 matches. The Warriors' opponents have a combined 45-25-20 record, with only two of Stan State's 10 opponents currently holding losing records. The schedule has included No. 1 Cal State LA and Seattle Pacific, which was ranked No. 25 nationally when the teams met in the season opener. The Warriors will face another nationally ranked opponent Friday when No. 8 Cal State San Bernardino visits Warrior Stadium.

CCAA STATISTICAL LEADERS
Alexis Cervantes ranks fourth in the CCAA with six goals, fourth with 13 shots on goal and fifth with 24 shots. Adrian Yepez ranks sixth in the conference with four assists.

In goal, Dylan Isasi ranks seventh in the CCAA with two shutouts and eighth with a 1.60 goals-against average. His 33 saves rank 10th in the conference, while he also ranks 10th with 3.30 saves per match.

WARRIOR RECORD BOOK
Cervantes enters the week with a team-leading six goals this season and is one goal shy of joining Stan State's single-season top 10 in goals. Seven goals currently marks the threshold for the top 10.  He is tied for tenth with 11 career goals and is four points from moving into tenth in career points.

Duran has 12 goals and four assists for 28 points in 30 career matches. His goal Sunday at Cal State San Marcos moved him into a tie with Tony Amaral for eighth on the career goals list. Duran is also just one point shy of the career top 10 in points.

Yepez is third in program history with 12 career assists, trailing only Samuel Villanueva with 17 and Nolan Holdridge with 15. Yepez has seven goals and 12 assists for 26 points in 48 career matches.

Flores has 10 goals and seven assists for 27 points in 29 career matches. He is one goal away from joining the career top 10 in goals and two points shy of the career top 10 in points. Flores has also recorded six career game-winning goals.

CCAA STANDINGS AFTER SECOND WEEK OF CONFERENCE PLAY
After the second week of CCAA play, Cal State LA leads the conference with 10 points at 3-0-1. Cal State San Bernardino and Cal State San Marcos are tied with nine points, followed by Cal State East Bay and Cal State Dominguez Hills with seven points apiece. Menlo and Cal Poly Pomona currently occupy the final two postseason positions with four points each.

Stan State is tied with Chico State with two points at 0-2-2, just two points behind the current final postseason position. The Warriors face two teams currently among the top four this week, hosting second-place No. 8 Cal State San Bernardino on Friday before facing fourth-place Cal State East Bay on Sunday in Alameda.

The top seven teams advance to the 2026 CCAA Men's Soccer Tournament, with the No. 1 seed receiving a bye into the semifinals. Seeds two through seven will play quarterfinal matches at campus sites on Nov. 1, with the semifinals and championship set for Nov. 6 and Nov. 8 at Kellogg Stadium in Pomona.

SCOUTING NO. 8 CAL STATE SAN BERNARDINO
Cal State San Bernardino enters Friday's match unbeaten at 7-0-2 overall and 3-0 in CCAA play. The Coyotes have won five consecutive matches, including all three of their conference contests. They defeated Cal State San Marcos 4-1 before posting home victories over Cal Poly Humboldt, 3-1, and Chico State, 3-0, last weekend.

CSUSB was ranked No. 8 nationally in last week's United Soccer Coaches poll. The next national rankings are scheduled to be released Tuesday.

The Coyotes have outscored their opponents 20-4 through nine matches while averaging 2.22 goals per contest and allowing just 0.44. They have recorded five shutouts and have allowed only two goals in each half all season.  Nevin Rueegger leads a balanced CSUSB attack with four goals, one assist and nine points. Diego Lopez and Titus Alviso each have two goals and a team-high four assists for eight points, while Alix Soukup has three goals and seven points. Rafa Fonseca has added three goals and six points.

Donovan Palomares has started seven matches in goal, posting a 5-0-2 record with a 0.43 goals-against average, 20 saves, an .870 save percentage and four shutouts. Cody Lindeman is 2-0 with a 0.50 goals-against average in two starts. As a team, CSUSB has a 0.44 goals-against average and an .846 save percentage.

SERIES HISTORY VS. NO. 8 CAL STATE SAN BERNARDINO
Stan State trails the all-time series against Cal State San Bernardino 8-6-4 since the teams first met in 2007. The Warriors are 3-4-2 against the Coyotes at Warrior Stadium and enter Friday riding a two-match winning streak in the series.

Stan State won a back-and-forth 3-2 match in San Bernardino last season. Duran gave the Warriors a 1-0 lead in the fourth minute off assists from Yepez and David Lozano before CSUSB tied the match in the 10th minute. Flores put Stan State back in front in the 62nd minute off an assist from Duran, but the Coyotes answered on a penalty kick just 47 seconds later. Yepez delivered the game-winner in the 76th minute to give Stan State the 3-2 victory.

The last meeting at Warrior Stadium came in 2024, when Stan State earned a 1-0 victory. After 84 scoreless minutes, Jacob Ramirez scored the game-winner at the 84:13 mark off an assist from Edgar Castaneda. The Warriors outshot CSUSB 18-7, including 7-3 in shots on goal, while recording three saves to preserve the shutout.

Those two victories marked Stan State's first back-to-back wins over the Coyotes since the Warriors won three straight meetings from 2010 through 2012.

SCOUTING CAL STATE EAST BAY
Cal State East Bay enters the week 2-6-2 overall but has played well since the start of CCAA action, posting a 2-1-1 conference record. The Pioneers have scored nine goals in their first four CCAA matches after scoring eight in their six non-conference contests.

Jefferson Parada leads East Bay with four goals, one assist and nine points, while Alejandro Zarate has four goals and eight points. Bennett Richards has three goals, one assist and seven points. Alexis Villanueva Zavala has a team-high three assists.

Adan Corona has handled the majority of the goalkeeping duties, starting nine matches and recording 46 saves. In CCAA play, Corona has a 2-1-1 record with a 2.02 goals-against average, 23 saves and a .742 save percentage.
East Bay has been particularly productive after halftime, scoring 13 of its 17 goals in the second half this season. In CCAA play, seven of the Pioneers' nine goals have come in the second half.

SERIES HISTORY VS. CAL STATE EAST BAY
Stan State leads the all-time series against Cal State East Bay 12-7-3 since the teams first met in 2009. The Warriors are 5-3-1 in road matches against the Pioneers and are 4-4-2 over the last 10 meetings.

The teams met twice during Stan State's historic 2025 season. In the regular-season meeting at Warrior Stadium, the Warriors rallied from a pair of one-goal deficits to earn a 2-2 draw. East Bay took a 1-0 lead in the 21st minute before Stan State tied the match in the 50th minute. The Pioneers regained the lead in the 57th minute, but Villanueva scored off an assist from Flores in the 61st minute to make it 2-2. Stan State finished with a 22-11 advantage in shots.

The teams met again in the CCAA Tournament semifinals at Cardinale Stadium in Seaside. Duran gave Stan State a 1-0 lead in the 22nd minute off an assist from Yepez. Cervantes added an insurance goal in the 87th minute off an assist from Jose Tizoc to secure the 2-0 victory and send the Warriors to the CCAA Tournament Championship match. Angel Ruiz-Hernandez made six saves in the shutout.

Stan State's last road meeting against East Bay came on Nov. 3, 2024, at Pioneer Stadium in Hayward. Bennett Richards scored the match's only goal in the 30th minute to give East Bay a 1-0 victory. The Warriors outshot the Pioneers 9-6 in the second half and finished with an 11-12 deficit in shots, while both teams had six shots on goal and seven corner kicks.
Sunday's contest will be played at the UCSF Health Oakland Roots & Soul Performance Center in Alameda.

Stan State then travels to Menlo on Saturday, Oct. 17, for a 3 p.m. match in Atherton and to Chico State on Thursday, Oct. 22, for a 7 p.m. contest. The Warriors return home for Senior Night against Cal Poly Humboldt on Saturday, Oct. 24, at 7 p.m. before concluding the regular season at Fresno Pacific on Thursday, Oct. 29, at 2 p.m.
