TURLOCK, Calif.--- Stan State continues its six-match home stand this week with a pair of non-conference matches at Warrior Stadium. The Warriors host Hawaii Pacific on Thursday, Sept. 10, at 7 p.m. before welcoming Dominican (Calif.) on Saturday, Sept. 12, at 7 p.m.

Stan State enters the week 1-2-1 overall and unbeaten in its first two home matches. Hawaii Pacific comes to Turlock with a 1-2 record, while Dominican enters the week 0-1-3.

POWELL IN FOURTH SEASON AT HELM
Stan State head coach John Powell is in his fourth season leading his alma mater and sixth season overall as a collegiate head coach. Powell is 29-20-1 at Stan State and 55-38-14 overall. His 29 victories rank third in program history, and he needs one win to become the third Stan State head coach to reach 30 victories.

Powell guided the Warriors to a 17-2-1 record in 2025, the program's first CCAA Tournament Championship since 2012 and its deepest NCAA postseason run with an appearance in the NCAA Division II Third Round. Stan State also spent two weeks ranked No. 1 nationally and established a program-record 14-match unbeaten streak.

Five Warriors earned United Soccer Coaches All-America honors in 2025. Gerardo Flores and Ian Reis were named to the First Team, Angel Ruiz-Hernandez and Samuel Villanueva earned Second Team honors, and Emmanuel Duran was named to the Third Team. Villanueva also earned D2CCA First Team All-America honors, while Ruiz-Hernandez was named to the D2CCA Third Team. Powell was named CCAA Coach of the Year, while the Stan State staff earned United Soccer Coaches West Region Coaching Staff of the Year honors.

Powell's current staff features three former Stan State soccer players in Eduardo Lopez, Jenna Zuniga and Ian Reis. Lopez played for the Warriors from 2010-13 before finishing his collegiate career at Whitworth and later earned the highest coaching license through the Mexican Football Association. Zuniga played for the Stan State women's soccer program from 2017-21 before playing professionally in Sweden and Germany. Reis joined the staff as a student assistant after earning First Team All-America and CCAA Tournament Defensive MVP honors in 2025.

WEEKEND RECAP
Stan State went 1-0-1 in its first two home matches of the season. The Warriors opened the homestand with a 3-1 victory over Saint Martin's on Thursday before battling Simon Fraser to a 1-1 draw Saturday morning.

Alexis Cervantes recorded a brace in the victory over Saint Martin's, while Gerardo Flores converted the game-winning penalty kick. Christian Brenes and Jose Ponce each recorded assists. Against Simon Fraser, David Lozano scored his first career goal off a corner kick from Adrian Yepez in the 14th minute. Simon Fraser tied the match on an own goal following a corner kick in the 72nd minute.  Dylan Isasi played all 180 minutes in goal during the weekend, allowing two goals and recording three saves. He made one save in the victory over Saint Martin's and two against Simon Fraser.

WARRIORS IN REVIEW
Stan State has scored six goals through its first four matches while averaging 11.3 shots per match. The Warriors have put 17 of their 45 attempts on goal and are 1-for-1 on penalty kicks.  Cervantes leads Stan State with three goals and six points. He also leads the Warriors with 15 shots and eight shots on goal. Yepez has one goal and two assists for four points, while Flores and Lozano have each scored once.

Kenneth Solares, Cameron Belandres, Ponce and Brenes each have one assist. Emmanuel Duran and Yepez are tied for second on the team with seven shots apiece.  Isasi has played all 360 minutes in goal for the Warriors. He has recorded 12 saves through four matches.

WARRIOR RECORD BOOK
Adrian Yepez recorded his 10th career assist on Lozano's goal against Simon Fraser. He is now tied for sixth on Stan State's career assists list with Hugo Brambila and Daniel Kuczynski. Yepez has six goals and 10 assists for 22 career points.

Gerardo Flores scored the 10th goal of his Warrior career against Saint Martin's. He is one goal shy of tying Josh Santillan, Patrick Carey and Rigoberto Gonzalez for ninth on Stan State's career goals list. Flores' penalty kick against the Saints was his sixth career game-winning goal.

Emmanuel Duran has 10 career goals and is also one goal shy of tying for ninth on Stan State's career list. His 23 career points are six shy of the career top 10.

SIX-MATCH HOME STAND
Stan State enters the second weekend of its six-match home stand unbeaten at Warrior Stadium this season at 1-0-1. The Warriors defeated Saint Martin's 3-1 in their home opener before tying Simon Fraser 1-1.  Stan State is now 13-8-6 at Warrior Stadium during John Powell's tenure after going 8-1-1 at home last season.

Following this week's matches against Hawaii Pacific and Dominican, the Warriors conclude the homes tand by opening CCAA play against Cal State Monterey Bay on Friday, Sept. 18, at 7 p.m. and hosting Cal State Dominguez Hills on Sunday, Sept. 20, at 2 p.m.

SCOUTING HAWAII PACIFIC
Hawaii Pacific enters the week 1-2 after playing its first three matches in Hawai'i. The Sharks opened the season with a 2-1 loss at Hawai'i Hilo before defeating Chaminade 3-1 and falling 4-2 to Texas-Dallas.

The Sharks have scored six goals on 31 shots through three matches, averaging two goals and 10.3 shots per contest. Fifteen of their 31 attempts have been on goal.
Kelly Takara leads Hawaii Pacific with three points on one goal and one assist. Paul Norberg, Ryder Breeden, Noah Clarkson, Anthony Najafi and Pedro Ashley have also scored. Norberg leads the Sharks with six shots, while Takara has put all four of his attempts on goal.

Eduardo Marin has played all 270 minutes in goal, recording nine saves.
SERIES HISTORY VS. HAWAII PACIFIC
Stan State is 3-0 all-time against Hawaii Pacific and has outscored the Sharks 7-3 in the three meetings. The Warriors are 1-0 against HPU at Warrior Stadium and 2-0 in Honolulu.  Stan State won the most recent meeting 2-0 in Honolulu in 2024. The only previous match-up in Turlock came in 2023, when the Warriors earned a 3-2 victory. Stan State won the first meeting between the programs 2-1 in Honolulu in 2017.

SCOUTING DOMINICAN
Dominican enters the week 0-1-3 after playing each of its first four matches on the road. The Penguins opened the season with a 4-3 loss at Cal State Monterey Bay before recording three consecutive draws against UC Merced (1-1), Cal State East Bay (2-2) and Fresno Pacific (2-2). Dominican will host Chico State on Thursday before traveling to Turlock to face Stan State on Saturday evening.

Dominican has scored eight goals through four matches while averaging two goals and 12 shots per contest. Eight different Penguins have scored a goal.  Sebastian Jaral leads Dominican with three points on one goal and one assist. Norman Tellez and Adrian Garcia each have six shots, while Rolando Gonzalez has a team-high nine attempts. Anthony Stainer leads the Penguins with two assists.

Colin Nestor has started three matches in goal and has 11 saves, while Adam Clem has four saves in one appearance.

SERIES HISTORY VS. DOMINICAN
Stan State and Dominican are tied 2-2 in the all-time series. The Warriors won last season's meeting 1-0 in San Rafael, with Gerardo Flores scoring the match's only goal in the 16th minute off an assist from Samuel Villanueva. Stan State outshot Dominican 14-4, while Angel Ruiz-Hernandez recorded four saves in the shutout.

Saturday will be the second meeting between the programs in Turlock. Dominican won the previous matchup at Warrior Stadium 3-2 in 2022. Stan State's other victory in the series was a 2-0 neutral-site win in Arcata in 2018.
