Jerome Jenkins

Coach Jenkins enters his first season as a member of the Stan State men’s basketball coaching staff after being a member of the Fresno State men’s basketball coaching staff from 2022 to 2024.  Prior to Fresno State, Jenkins was the head men’s basketball coach at Whatcom Community College in Bellingham, Wash., from 2019 to 2022.
Before heading to Washington, Jenkins was an Assistant Coach at Diablo Valley College for the 2018-19 season. 

From 2016 to 18, Jenkins taught Physical Education courses at West Los Angeles College and a project manager at Santa Monica College.  During his time at Santa Monica College, he oversaw game management for the intercollegiate athletic teams and was a variety of hiring committees for the Athletic Department.

Jenkins was the head men’s basketball coach at Santa Monica College from 2008 to 2017.  During that time, Jenkins was the 2010-11 Coach of the Year and guided Santa Monica to the Western State Conference South Division Title. 

He was the head men’s basketball coach at Sacramento State from 2000 to 2008.  During his time on the sidelines at Sacramento State, Jenkins recruited and coached the 2007-08 Big Sky Freshman of the Year Vinnie McGhee, 2004-05 Big Sky Newcomer of the Year Jason Harris, the Big Sky All-Time Steals Leader in DeShawn Freeman, and the ESPN Final Four Slam Dunk participant Jameel Pugh.  Thirteen of his players during his time in Sacramento signed professional contracts. 

Before being named the head coach in 2000, Jenkins was an assistant coach for the Hornets during the 1999-2000 year.  From 1997 to 1999, he was a member of the men’s basketball coaching staff at Eastern Washington University.  Jenkins was the recruiting coordinator at Eastern Washington and played a huge role in EWU capturing the Big Sky Championship in 1999-2000.  Prior to EWU, Jenkins was the Associate Head coach at Diablo Valley College where he helped them capture three league titles during 1993 to 1997.

Jenkins received his Bachelor of Arts Degree from Regis University with a minor in Physical Education in 1990.  In 2016, Jenkins received his Master’s Degree in
Coaching and Athletic Administration in 2016 from Concordia University Irvine. 

In 1985, he was inducted into the Wall of Fame at Fairfax High School in Los Angeles, Calif., as he helped bring the first City Championship in the Coach Kitani era.
