Joey Guzzo was named the Head Strength and Conditioning Coach at CSU Stanislaus in 2017.
Prior to arriving in Turlock, Guzzo was a contracted Performance Coach for the South Carolina National Guard. In this position, he covered six counties and 11 units throughout the state of South Carolina and was responsible for the development of both individual and group training programs designed to improve solider readiness with the main objective of training for the Army Physical Fitness Test.
No stranger to the collegiate setting, Guzzo served two years as the Head Strength and Conditioning Coach at Divison I Loyola University-Maryland. At Loyola, Guzzo had direct oversight of 14 varsity sports with main training responsibilities for men’s and women’s basketball, women’s volleyball, women’s track and varsity crew. He also oversaw all aspects of student-athlete nutrition in regards to the refueling station in the weight room.
Before Loyola, Guzzo served as an Assistant Strength and Conditioning Coach at Butler University in Indianapolis from August 2012 to November 2014. At Butler, Guzzo was in charge of the design and implementation of the training programs for women’s basketball, baseball, men’s and women’s soccer, men’s and women’s tennis, men’s and women’s golf and women’s swimming and diving while also assisting with men’s basketball, football, women’s volleyball and softball. He was also in charge of the internship program while at Butler.
Before arriving in Indianapolis, Guzzo was an Assistant Strength and Conditioning Coach at Division I Saint Francis University in Loretto, Pa., from August 2010 to August 2012. At SFU, Guzzo was the lead coach for men’s and women’s soccer, men’s and women’s volleyball, men’s and women’s tennis as well as women’s golf. He assisted in the year-round training of football, men’s and women’s basketball, field hockey, women’s lacrosse and women’s swimming and diving while also supervising the interns and work-study students. Guzzo also had stints as a volunteer intern at Missouri State University in the Spring of 2010 and Hofstra University in the summer of 2010.
Originally from Long Island, N.Y., Guzzo graduated from Elon University in North Carolina in 2009 with his degree is Exercise Science and received his Master’s Degree in Education in 2012 from Saint Francis University. Guzzo holds both his Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) and Registered Strength and Conditioning Coach (RSCC) certifications through the NSCA as well as his Level 1 Sports Performance Coach Certification through USA Weightlifting.
