TURLOCK --- The Warriors just couldn't get over the hump all night as they dropped a California Collegiate Athletic Association volleyball match in straight sets to Humboldt State.
The Lumberjacks, led by Danielle Wells with 13 kills improved to 8-10 overall and 4-6 in the CCAA with the 30-28, 30-28, 30-26 win.The Warriors are 5-16 and 1-9 in league play.
CSUS head coach Chris Difani got balance offensive attack from her team on the night with
Debbie Vander Schaaf leading with 9 kills, three aces and 11 digs.
Nicole Musso and
Caitlin Steffeck each had eight kills while Liz Cameron and
Jen Gee each chipped in seven.
Megan Britton had 25 digs to lead the way defensively.
Steffeck, who is closing in on the CSUS career blocks record, put away three blocks and is now just three blocks shy of setting the new mark. Musso also added four blocks for the Warriors.
"We played good volleyball tonight. We just couldn't get over the hump and finish the games," Difani said. "We are a young team and we can get a lot better."
In a very closely contested match, the Warriors and the Lumberjacks never had large leads with the Warriors threatening to win each of the first two sets. Stanislaus, however, could not finish their rallied in falling in game one 30-28 after closing the gap to 28-27 after a Liz Cameron kill.
It was a similar story in game two with CSUS running off five straight points to take a 27-25 lead and moments later
Nicole Musso gave Stanislaus a 28-26 lead. HSU, however, rolled off four straight points for the win.
Olivia Solomon added 11 kills, Kelly Catherina had 26 digs and Liz Shannon with 39 assists for the Lumberjacks.
