TURLOCK – The Cal State Stanislaus Women's basketball team fell to Northwest Nazarene 79-63 Friday night, in the second game of the Eva Schicke Memorial Classic presented by Stanislaus Farm Supply at Warrior Arena.
The Warriors were led in scoring by
Lysandra Williams with 12 points and Gwen Page added 10. The Crusaders had four players score in double figures, led by Jennifer Williams 14 points. The Warriors did not help themselves committing 37 turnovers (23 in the first half), while notching just 4 steals.
The Warriors were able to cut the lead to three points, 27-24, with seven minutes remaining in the first half, before the Crusaders finished the period with a 15-6 run and expanding the lead to 12 at the break. The Crusaders then scored the first nine points of the second half and the Warriors found themselves down 21 just a minute and a half into the second half. The Warriors were never able to cut lead below 16 points.
“I am excited about this group,” noted Warrior head coach Sharon Turner-Dean, “When we play hard for 40 minutes, follow directions and do not panic, we will be a good team”.
The Warriors show signs of production both offensively and defensively, but could not take care of the basketball well enough and the Crusaders took advantage of the miscues.
