BELMONT --- Down two-games-to-one and six points away from their fifth straight loss, the Cal State Stanislaus women's volleyball team rallied and came back to defeat Notre Dame de Namur, 30-25, 28-30, 22-30, 30-28, 15-11, in a non-conference match Tuesday night.
In a reversal of fortune from Saturday's loss at Humboldt State, the Warriors took control of the match by turning the momentum around in game four. Trailing 24-19, the Warriors rolled off four straight points to challenge the Argonauts. Minutes later, a 7-4 run by CSUS gave the team the game and new life to force a decisive fifth set.
In the fifth, strong play by the Warriors' middle hitters, couple of NDNU errors, led to Cal State Stanislaus winning its third match of the year to improve to 3-8 heading into this weekend's tough match-up against Top 20 teams Cal State L.A. and UC San Diego.
Tuesday night, it was the balance attack that did it for the Warriors offense as
Debbie Vander Schaaf led the way with 11 kills.
Caitlin Steffeck and
Nicole Musso each had nine kills and
Megan Loghry added eight. Karly Van Foeken had six kills and seven digs. The middle hitters/blockers also did their job at the net contributing to 19 total blocks. Loghry led the way with six total blocks.
Freshman setter
Colleen Sullivan dished 43 assists with 11 digs and libero
Megan Britton had 18 digs.
Emily Evans, who finished with 17 kills, led five different NDNU players with 10 or more kills.
The Warriors are now 2-0 against Notre Dame de Namur this season and the two teams will meet again on Oct. 24 in Turlock.
