ARCATA -- In a homecoming for three Warriors and head coach Eric Mild, Cal State Stanislaus ended its offensive drought by scoring early and held on to blank Humboldt State, 1-0, in a CCAA men's soccer match on Sunday.

Alfredo Renteria's header goal just two minutes into the match was enough as the Warriors defense and goalkeeper Mando Herrera shutout the Lumberjacks. The much-needed victory ended Stanislaus' six-match winless streak as the Warriors improved to 2-4-2 overall and 1-2-1 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association. HSU is 4-4, 1-2 in the CCAA.

Herrera, who is a native of nearby Eureka, notched his fourth shutout of the season. Dennis Wolfe is also a product of Eureka High while Brice Burtchett is from Arcata. Mild, the Warriors' head coach, played and graduated from Humboldt State.

The Warriors ended their scoring drought of 279 minutes entering the contest at 2:01 when Renteria scored on a header off of a Thomas Janz corner kick. Stanislaus had not score a goal since Sept. 7 when the Warriors took a 1-0 lead at 11:03 versus San Francisco State.

The score proved to be plenty for the Stanislaus defense and Herrera as they saw 18 HSU shots with the Warrior keeper picking up five saves. HSU put on a late charge with a couple of scoring chances but came up empty. Mark Nelson took a shot just before the one-minute mark that was stopped by Herrera and seconds later a Scott Mariani shot sailed wide.

Cal State Stanislaus will remain on the road next weekend as the Warriors travels to take on Cal Poly Pomona and Cal State San Bernardino.
