Jacks hold off Warriors

ARCATA — Kayla Henry and Katie Franci provided the offense, pacing Humboldt State to a 77-71 win over Cal State Stanislaus in California Collegiate Athletic Association women's basketball action Saturday.

Henry and Franci patrolled the paint for HSU, scoring 24 and 16 points, respectively, helping the Jacks hold off a hard-charging Warriors. The Jacks moved up by as many as 13 points in the second half, but allowed the Warriors to pull within one when Lysandra Williams drove for a basket with four minutes, 10 seconds remaining.

Henry and Franci scored the next eight points for the Jacks to keep Humboldt ahead, and Luiza Osborne and Brittney Taylor added six straight free throws to finish off the game. With win, the Jacks improved to 8-7 overall and drew even at 4-4 in the CCAA while the Warriors fell to 4-10 and 2-6.

Williams paced the Warriors collecting a double-double with 20 points and 10 rebounds.  Shristy Kumar added 17 points and Tiara Dvorek had 13 points.
Humboldt State opened out an 11-2 lead by going inside to Franci and Henry in the post. But the Warriors soon found their footing, three-pointers by Christin Gowan and Dvorak pulling them within four points at 13-9.

HSU stretched the lead to 13 points toward the end of the period, enjoying a 37-24 advantage on Henry's layup with 1:40 left in the half. But Kumar drained a three-pointer and Gowan made a pair of free throws to help the Warriors pull within 37-29 at the break.

The Warriors will be back on the road next weekend to take on Cal State Los Angeles and Cal State Dominguez Hills.
