Road woes continue for Warrior women

LOS ANGELES — The road has not been kind for the Warriors women's basketball team and the woes continued on Friday as Cal State L.A. defeated Cal State Stanislaus, 84-56, at the Eagles Nest.

Shristy Kumar had a nice all-around game as she led all players with 24 points, grabbed nine rebounds, blocked three shots and had two steals but the Warriors dropped to 4-11 overall and 2-7 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association. It is CSUS's sixth loss on the road in six games this season.

Kumar, who finished the night 8-for-19 from the field with three three-pointers, had 15 of the team's 23 points in the first half as Cal State L.A. led 41-23 at the break. Busi had 15 points, four assists and six rebounds for Stanislaus, but no other players scored more than six points. As a team, CSUS shot 31.3 percent for the night.

Jaemy Oda netted 19 points and Veronica Wiliams had 18 to lead the Golden Eagles (6-9, 3-6 CCAA). Yasmeen Herrera pulled 12 rebounds.

After a Kumar free throw tied the game at 17-17 with 9:23 left in the first half, Cal State L.A. went on a 14-2 run to take a 12-point lead. LA extended the lead to 18 points late in the first half before taking the 41-23 lead at intermission.

Rachel Ottovich gave Cal State L.A. it's biggest lead of the night — and the Warriors' biggest deficit of the season — with a layup at 7:54 to go ahead 73-41.

Kumar now has just eight points shy of her 800th career point. She will try and reach that milestone on Saturday when Stanislaus travels to Carson to take on Cal State Dominguez Hills. Live video broadcast of the game against the Toros will be available through the CSUDH website at gotoros.com.
