CHICO — Unfortunately for the Cal State Stanislaus men's soccer team coming up close and coming up short is now becoming a trend. For the sixth time in the current seven-match losing streak, the Warriors dropped a contest decided by one goal, this time a 1-0 setback to Chico State.

With the most recent one-goal loss on Wednesday, the Warriors dropped to 1-7-1 overall and 0-6-0 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association during a "rebuilding" year. Chico State, which is one-week removed from being ranked No. 17 in the nation, improved to 9-1-0 and 5-1-0 in the CCAA.

Wednesday afternoon, the Warriors held the high-flying Chico State team to just three shots, but two of them were on-goal. Kevin Gibson's header try in the 41st minute found the back of the net for the only score of the match. He was assisted by Aren Dawkins and Michael Keohane.

For the Warriors, Matthew Johnson had four of the team's seven shots, but none of them on frame. Goalkeeper Javier Rosales played behind a solid defensive unit and picked up a save.

In 2007, Cal State Stanislaus lost nine one-goal matches and was in three scoreless ties plus a 1-1 draw to finish 4-11-4.

Chico State is off to its second best start in program history and the Wildcats are 5-0-0 at home this season. The 1971 team started 9-0-1.
