KANSAS CITY, Mo.--- The United Soccer Coaches announced that the Stan State men's soccer team, under the direction of head coach John Powell, has earned the 2025-26 College Team Academic Award, recognizing the program's commitment to excellence in the classroom.

The Warriors are one of 781 soccer teams (329 men, 452 women) posted a team grade point average of 3.0 or higher, thereby earning the United Soccer Coaches Team Academic Award for the 2025-26 academic year. Of that total, 178 schools had both their men's and women's programs recognized.

To be eligible for the United Soccer Coaches College Team Academic Award, a program must post a composite team grade-point average of at least 3.0 on a 4.0 scale. All student-athletes listed on the team's official roster during the fall season are included in the calculation.

The Warriors continued to demonstrate excellence as student-athletes throughout the 2025-26 academic year.

Samuel Villanueva was named a College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-American and earned United Soccer Coaches Scholar All-West Region honors.

Villanueva and Adrian Yepez were selected to the CSC Academic All-District Team.

Luis Flores, George Riberal, and Villanueva were inducted into the Stan State chapter of the Chi Alpha Sigma National College Athlete Honor Society.

Ten Warriors earned recognition on the 2025-26 California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) All-Academic Team, including Luis Flores, David Lozano, Nehemiah Prado, Ian Reis, George Riberal, Ryan Rosas, Anthony Sanchez-Raya, Haidyn Stevens, Samuel Villanueva, and Adrian Yepez.

Several Warriors also earned recognition on the 2025 CCAA Fall Academic Honor Roll, including Leo Alvarez, Federico Barbieri, Luis Flores, David Lozano, George Riberal, Ryan Rosas, Samuel Villanueva, and Adrian Yepez.

The Warriors also placed numerous student-athletes on the Stan State Fall Honor Roll, including Leo Alvarez, Justin Aparicio, Federico Barbieri, Sebastian Carbajal, Charlie Galvan, Luis Flores, David Lozano, Nehemiah Prado, Ian Reis, George Riberal, Ryan Rosas, Anthony Sanchez, Kenneth Solares, Haidyn Stevens, Samuel Villanueva, and Adrian Yepez.

Stan State continued its academic success during the spring semester as Cameron Belandres, Michael Daley, Luis Flores, David Lozano, Ian Reis, George Riberal, Anthony Sanchez-Raya, Samuel Villanueva, Adrian Yepez, and Haidyn Stevens were named to the Stan State Spring Honor Roll.

Stan State produced one of the most successful seasons in program history during the 2025 campaign, posting a 17-2-1 overall record and emerging as a national contender throughout the year.

The Warriors climbed to No. 1 in the nation for two consecutive weeks, recorded a school-record 14-match unbeaten streak, captured the CCAA Tournament Championship for the first time since 2012, and advanced to the NCAA Division II Third Round. Stan State finished the season ranked No. 5 in the final United Soccer Coaches Division II National Poll.  The Warriors earned extensive national, regional, conference, and institutional recognition throughout the season.

Gerardo Flores and Ian Reis were named United Soccer Coaches First Team All-Americans, while Angel Ruiz-Hernandez and Samuel Villanueva earned Second Team All-America honors and Emmanuel Duran was selected to the Third Team. Villanueva also earned D2CCA First Team All-America honors, while Ruiz-Hernandez garnered D2CCA Third Team All-America recognition.

Flores was named the CCAA Forward of the Year and was selected as the United Soccer Coaches National Player of the Month. He also earned First Team All-CCAA, D2CCA First Team All-West Region, United Soccer Coaches First Team All-West Region, and Stan State Male Newcomer of the Year honors.  Reis earned First Team All-CCAA and United Soccer Coaches First Team All-West Region honors. He was selected as the CCAA Tournament Defensive MVP and was named Stan State Male Athlete of the Year.

Villanueva earned D2CCA First Team All-West Region honors and was selected as the CCAA Tournament Offensive MVP while also receiving the CCAA Hal Charnofsky Memorial Award.  Ruiz-Hernandez was named the CCAA Goalkeeper of the Year and also earned First Team All-CCAA, D2CCA First Team All-West Region, and United Soccer Coaches First Team All-West Region honors.  Duran also earned First Team All-CCAA and United Soccer Coaches First Team All-West Region honors.  Sebastian Carbajal was named the CCAA Freshman of the Year and earned Second Team All-CCAA honors. Federico Barbieri, Jose Ponce, Landon Real Ruiz, and Adrian Yepez received All-CCAA Honorable Mention recognition.

Villanueva and Reis were named the CCAA Tournament Offensive and Defensive MVPs, respectively, while Alexis Cervantes, Duran, and Ruiz-Hernandez were selected to the CCAA All-Tournament Team.

Powell was selected as the CCAA Coach of the Year, while the Stan State coaching staff was named the United Soccer Coaches West Region Coaching Staff of the Year.

The United Soccer Coaches Team Academic Award is presented annually to collegiate soccer programs that demonstrate excellence in the classroom while balancing the demands of intercollegiate athletics.

The award reflects the commitment of Powell and the Stan State men's soccer program to achieving success both academically and athletically while representing the University, the CCAA, and NCAA Division II at the highest level.

The Warriors enter the 2026 season ranked No. 5 in the United Soccer Coaches NCAA Division II Men's Soccer Preseason Poll, released Tuesday, after matching their final national ranking from the 2025 campaign. Stan State opens the season on Aug. 27 at No. 25 Seattle Pacific before facing Western Washington on Aug. 29. The Warriors make their home debut on Sept. 3 against Saint Martin's at Warrior Stadium and open CCAA play on Sept. 18, welcoming Cal State Monterey Bay to Turlock.
