TURLOCK — Once again the Cal State Stanislaus women's basketball team overcame a large deficit and rallied to victory.
The Warriors rallied from down 21 points to beat Academy of Art, 80-76, in overtime in game two of the Stanislaus Thanksgiving Classic Friday afternoon at Warrior Arena. Despite shooting just around 30 percent for most of the game, Cal State Stanislaus' comeback win sent the team to a 3-0 start, the progame's best since 2000-01.
Katie Busi scored 15 points and pull down a career-best 21 rebounds and
Lysandra Williams netted 22 points to lead the Warriors. Williams had 16 of her points in the second half. Busi also finished with two assists, five blocks and two steals.
Academy of Art, a first-year program based in San Francisco, took a 59-38 lead at 8:47 in the second half when Jacqui Heck nailed a three-pointer. Cal State Stanislaus would chip away at the lead with offensive rebounds, free throws and a key three-pointer by
Samantha Bertomen. The Warriors used a 12-2 run to cut AAU's lead to 61-50 at 4:39.
Stanislaus would eventually cut the lead to single digits inside the three-minute mark until Busi's three-pointer with 13 seconds to go tie the game for the first time in the game to send it into overtime. Busi scored five of her points to lead team to another come-from-behind win.
The narrow win is the Warriors third in as many games. Cal State Stanislaus beat Central Washington 76-75 before having to rally to edge Northwest Nazarene 73-71 two weekends ago during the Evan Schicke Memorial Classic.
Bertomen, a freshman from Turlock, had 14 points -- all in the second half and overtime -- and
Antwinette Turner added 11 points to pace Stanislaus.
Lavalasi Key had 23 points and 14 rebounds and Sondra Stilwell added 11 points and six steals for the Urban Knights (0-5).
Cal State Stanislaus shot just 29.3 percent in the second half and 33.3 for the game. The Warriors were also 21-for-34 from the line but held a huge rebounding advantage 64-43.
The Warriors will host Notre Dame de Namur Saturday afternoon at 2:30 p.m. as the Thanksgiving Classic continues.

In the tournament's opener, Janet Oseguea had 23 points, 10 rebounds and two blocks. to lead the Otters over NDNU. Dana Andrew, who had early foul trouble scored 12 of her 15 points in the second half. For the Argonauts, Tanaia Keyes had 20 points and five rebounds.
