CCAA co-leader CSUSB downs CSUS
SAN BERNARDINO -- Senior guard Leslie Pickron came off the bench to score a career high 20 points and Vanessa Wilt recorded the 22nd double-double of the season Saturday night as Cal State San Bernardino defeated Cal State Stanislaus 74-60 in a CCAA conference game before 385 fans in Coussoulis Arena.
Katie Busi led the Warriors with 14 points while
Christin Gowan had 12 points, five assists and eight rebounds.
Lysandra Williams finished with 10 points. The loss dropped the Warriors to 6-16 on the season, 4-12 in the CCAA.
The victory kept the Coyotes in first place in the CCAA with a 13-3 record with four games remaining in the regular season. CSUSB is now 19-4 overall and ranked No. 3 in the West.
The Coyotes shot 43 percent for the game (27 of 62) and 11 of 23 from three-point range (48 percent). Stanislaus shot 43 percent (24 of 56) but made only three of 11 bombs (27 percent). However, the Warriors outrebounded the Coyotes 41-32.
CSUSB led 36-24 at the half but the Warriors scored eight straight points to start the final period to cut the lead to four at 36-32 on a layup by Gowan. However, CSUSB moved out to a 12-point advantage at 47-35 on a three-pointer by Pickron with 13:20 left in the game.
After Williams sank two free throws to bring the Warriors within 10 at 47-37, the Coyotes went on a 14-2 run to lead 61-39 with 9:14 left on a three-pointer by Johnson.
Saturday's game completes the Warriors final road trip of the regular season as they will play at home for the final two weekends, beginning with next Friday night versus Humboldt State.
