SEASIDE -- The Warriors struggled Friday to keep their head above water playing by the coast against Cal State Monterey Bay, and in the end were handed their fifth-straight loss, a 2-1 overtime decision to the Otters.

The loss puts the young Warriors team all alone at the bottom of the California Collegiate Athletic Associaton North Division standings with a 1-5-1 overall record and an 0-5-0 mark in CCAA play. Cal State Monterey Bay, a 2007 CCAA Championship Tournament participant, improves to 1-4-3 overall and 1-2-2 in the CCAA.

The Otters got on the board first in the 19th minute when junior Nate Torricelli fired the ball home from close range on a cross by freshman Beau Villanueva to make the score 1-0. That score would stand through the first half.

Less than a minute into the second half, the Warriors tied the game with a header goal by freshman Andrew Ruiz, his third of the season.  The assist went to senior Matthew Johnson.

The Otters had a chance to take the lead at the 68:45 mark. Torricelli had a breakaway on the left side and crossed it to sophomore Andy Binol, whose shot sailed over the cross bar.

With three minutes left in regulation, Otter goalkeeper Brenden Baca punched the ball over the cross bar to prevent a potential Warrior game-winning goal.

The Warrior defense held strong throughout the second half and sent the game into overtime. Goalkeeper Javier Rosales made seven saves in Friday's game while the Warriors were outshot 14-8 by Cal State Monterey Bay.

The Warriors were only able to get off one shot in the overtime period before Cal State Monterey Bay struck with the winning shot. Just two minutes into the overtime, Torricelli crossed the ball to Grant Robson who put the ball into the lower right corner of the goal for the win.

The Warriors travel to San Francisco State Sunday for a 3 p.m. kickoff against the Gators before heading to Chico State Wednesday for an afternoon game at 4:30 p.m.
