TURLOCK -- A big first half helped the Humboldt State Lumberjacks defeat the Cal State Stanislaus Warriors, 72-61, Saturday night at Warrior Arena.  With the loss the Warriors drop to 7-6, 2-4 (CCAA) and the Lumberjacks improve to 9-4, 4-2 (CCAA).

Gwen Page led the way for the Warriors scoring 19 points and collecting nine rebounds.  Lysandra Williams chipped in with 16 points and Antwinette Turner added 10.

Andrea Bobic dropped in 18 points for the Lumberjacks and Paige Peterson hauled in 10 of the teams 40 rebounds.

The Warriors fell into a hole in the final 10 minutes of the first half and were never able to recover.  The Warriors struggled to find their shots as they netted just one field goal through the first 12 minutes of action and finished the half shooting 32%.  With the poor shooting and some costly turnovers the Warriors fell behind by 16 with just under five minutes left in the half.  Despite cutting the lead to 10 at intermission, it was a deficit the Warriors could not climb out of.

The Warriors were out rebounded 40 to 35, and the Jacks collected 12 offensive rebounds to the Warriors eight which allowed them some second chance opportunities.  The Lumberjacks also kept Katie Busi from collecting her fifth straight double-double, as she ended the game with nine points and seven rebounds.

"I thought we hit a stretch where we took bad shots and made bad decisions and we dug ourselves a hole," said head coach Sharon Turner-Dean.

It was a hole that the Warriors could only cut down to seven in the second half and led to their fifth loss in the last six games and their first home loss of the season.

The Warriors will be back at home next weekend taking on Cal State L.A. on Friday and Cal State Dominguez Hills on Saturday.
