1/3/2009 7:33:56 PM

POMONA -- Cal Poly Pomona was coming off a win over Chico State and is 3-0 in league play going into Saturday night's game. The Broncos had also beaten the Warriors in their last 10 meetings. All of those facts mattered little to Cal State Stanislaus — and appeared to be old news — until late in the second half.

The Warriors could not hold on a to a six-point second half lead and the Broncos went on a 13-0 run to take control as Cal Poly Pomona defeated Cal State Stanislaus, 65-56, to improve to 4-0 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association (8-5 overall).

Cal State Stanislaus, which had the CCAA co-leaders on the ropes, did not go for the kill and let one slip away to drop to 6-5 overall and 1-3 in CCAA play.

Sophomore center Katie Busi scored 16 points, senior forward Lysandra Williams had 15 and freshman guard Samantha Bertomen scored 12 points for the Warriors in losing effort. Busi also pulled 10 rebounds for her fourth double-double (third in as many games) of the season. Turlock's Bertomen was 4-for-4 from the field and made all three of her three-point attempts in the first half.

Cal Poly Pomona was led by center Megan Ford with 22 points on 10 of 16 shooting. Ford also had 10 rebounds. Stephisha Walton added 13 points and six rebounds. Ford was averaging 9.8 points per game entering the weekend.

Busi's jumper at 6:53 left in the game gave Stanislaus a 51-45 lead, but turnovers and missed three-pointers led to an offensive spur by Cal Poly Pomona. The Broncos went on a 13-0 run that was capped by a Reyana Colson layup at 1:32 for a 58-51 lead. The Warriors scored just seven points in the games final seven minutes.

Cal Poly Pomona shot 20 more free throws and made 15 more than the Warriors. Stanislaus had 20 turnovers to Pomona's 10. With a strong first-half, the Warriors finished the game 40.4 percent from the field.

The win is Pomona's 11 straight over Cal State Stanislaus since the Warriors swept the season series in 2002-03 -- CSUS head coach Sharon Turner-Dean's first season at Stanislaus.

Cal State Stanislaus returns home to host the next five conference games with Sonoma State and Humboldt State visiting next weekend.
