TURLOCK -- The Cal State Stanislaus Warriors got back in the win column Friday night behind a big night from
Lysandra Williams as the Warriors defeated Cal State Monterey Bay, 73-57, in California Collegiate Athletic Association play Friday night.
With the win, the Warriors even their record to 9-9 overall and 4-7 in the CCAA. The Otters drop to 9-8 overall and 4-7 in CCAA play.
Williams scored a season-high 29 points and pulled down a team-high seven rebounds to lead all players. She scored 15 of her points in the first half and finished 12 for 22 from the field and 3 for 6 from the three-point arc. Sophomore center
Katie Busi chipped in 16 points and six rebounds and
Christin Gowan finished out the double-figure scoring with 10 points.
The Warriors also had a great night in the passing game, dishing out 18 assists.
Heather Highshoe had four assists and three other players --
Antwinette Turner, Williams and Gowan -- each had three.
Cal State Monterey Bay was led the Helen Suarez with 21 points, four assists and two steals.
Cal State Stanislaus took advantage of a cold-shooting first half by CSUMB and jumped out to an early lead. The Warriors led by as many as 14 on a Williams three-pointer at 5:30 left before halftime. The Warriors' largest lead was 20 points on another Williams triple, at 5:23 left to go, when they were up 66-46.
The Warriors were up by 19 just three and a half minute into the second half at 40-21. CSUMB were cut its deficit to 46-36 when Suarez made a layup at 11:16.
Williams' 29-point outing is her second best of her four-year career. She had 31 points on March 1, 2007 against Sonoma State.
Cal State Stanislaus also limited its mistakes, turning the ball just 15 times.
