TURLOCK — It was a fast and furious match between CCAA North Division foes with physical play, but in the end San Francisco State and Cal State Stanislaus played to a 3-3 draw Friday night at Warrior Stadium.

Playing with one-man down for 62 minutes, the Warriors show toughness and scored twice to pick up one point in the California Collegiate Athletic Association standings. Cal State Stanislaus moves to 6-4-1 overall and 3-4-1 in the CCAA while SF State is 5-4-2, 3-2-2.

"Tonight it was a great effort by the Warrior soccer program. To be down a man for 63 minutes, to twice be down in the game and to come back both times under those circumstances, it was a great effort," Stanislaus head coach Dana Taylor said.

Jose Velasquez scored with three and half minutes before the half on a beautiful diving header from a Nolan Holdridge free kick to even the score at 1-1 entering the break.

Then, the match got interesting in the second half.

A double-caution just three minutes into the second half turned the match into an intense battle. Unfortunately for the Warriors, leading scorer Victor Regalado was given a second yellow just seconds later prompting an ejection, forcing Stanislaus to play with just 10 players on the field.

San Francisco State cashed in on the advantage and scored in the 52nd minute to go up 2-1, but Warrior's Bladimir Murillo kicked a grounder right at Gator goalie Eric Scolman that went through his legs to even the score at 72:19.

Arturo Pulido then gave the Warriors a 3-2 lead at 80:52 when he finished a deflected shot by Jio Santana.

"Everybody wore their hearts on their sleeves and so many different guys stepped up for the sake of their team," Taylor said.

However, SFSU responded three minutes later with the equalizer by Sasha Chalak when he knocked in a direct kick by Arnold Arceta that went off of the CSUS defensive wall.

The Warriors would have the most chances in the overtime periods. They appeared to have scored the golden goal as time expired in the first OT, but an offsides call turned back the celebration. In the second extra time period, Oscar Ramirez had an empty netter when Scolman came out too far to the far side. However, as Scolman recovers, Gross's shot from 40 yards out sailed high.

In the end seven cautions and a red card were awarded along with 37 fouls. The rapid attack by both sides resulted in 45 total shots.

"Tonight was a very intense, physical game and both teams battled," Taylor added. "I was proud of the way the guys, being down a man, controlled the shots in the second half and OT. We were unlucky to not come away with a victory."

Stanislaus goalkeeper Javier Rosales made some amazing saves, including two point-blank attempts in the first half and a kick-save on an one-on-one play late in the second half. Rosales finished with six saves.

Cal State Stanislaus remains unbeaten at Warrior Stadium with a 5-0-1 mark and will look to extend the streak on Sunday when the Warriors host Cal State Monterey Bay at 2 p.m.
