TURLOCK — Since its opening in August, Warrior Stadium has been a pleasant place to play for the Cal State Stanislaus men's soccer team. All of that changed Sunday afternoon against Cal State Monterey Bay.

The Otters scored single goals in each half of Sunday's game to end the Warriors' home unbeaten streak at six games with a 2-0 California Collegiate Athletic Association win. The 5-0-1 streak set a new program record for going unbeaten at home.

Cal State Monterey Bay moves to 2-7-2 overall and 2-4-2 in the CCAA. The Warriors are now 6-5-1 overall and 3-5-1 in CCAA play. The Otters have now won in Turlock for two straight seasons after having never won on the Warriors' turf through 2007.

"Hats off to Monterey Bay to come in and get the win," Warriors head coach Dana Taylor said.

Both of Cal State Monterey Bay's goals came via corner kicks. The Warriors dominated possession in the first half and outshot the Otters 11-1, but it was the visitors who made their one shot count.

Trevor Randall served a corner kick in the 9th minute to the far side of the field to Grant Robson, who sent the ball right into heavy traffic in front of the goal. Gabe Glass headed the ball over Warriors goalkeeper Steven Waite for the 1-0 lead.

"I am very disappointed in my entire team in their lack of ability to bring it today," Taylor said.

The game became a bit more balanced in the second half with both teams getting equal opportunities. The Otters created more chances for themselves and took six shots compared to their single shot in the first half.

Cal State Monterey Bay would make it difficult on the Warriors in the 58th minute when Riley Johns fired a point-blank shot from in front of the goal to give the Otters a 2-0 lead. The ball was loose inside the goalkeeper box after another CSUMB corner kick.

Both teams took eight corner kicks apiece in the game, including 12 total in the first half alone. The Warriors outshot Cal State Monterey Bay 22-7, but Otters goalkeeper Brenden Baca made six saves to preserve the shutout. The Warriors are now 2-1-1 this season when taking 20 or more shots in a game.

"These are the type of mental lapses that have been plaguing our team all season and they need to be eliminated. They will be eliminated," Taylor said.

Cal State Stanislaus will wrap up their three-game homestand at 4:30 p.m. Saturday when they host CCAA North rival Chico State.
