Host NNU defeats Warriors at Classic

NAMPA, Idaho -- Northwest Nazarene used a strong second half to pull away from the Warriors as the Crusaders defeated Cal State Stanislaus 79-58 during the feature game of the Thanksgiving Classic on Friday.

NNU turned an 8-point half point lead into a big win by outscoring Stanislaus 38-25 in the second half. The Warriors shot just 28.6 percent from the field in the second half.

Andreanna Marshall had 17 points to lead the Warriors as they opened. Katie Busi notched her first double-double of the season with 11 points and 10 rebounds. Jeanette Rowe added 12 points for the Warriors.

The Warriors opened the game on a 5-0 run with Rowe hitting a three-pointer and Samantha Bertomen followed with a jumper. But a 19-7 NNU run quickly turned it around. Stanislaus stayed close and pulled within five with a pair of Bertomen free throws at 1:51 to go in the first half.

Kristin Hein's jumper at 10:49 gave Northwest Nazarene a 21-point lead at 65-44. Hein finished with 18 points and 14 rebounds to lead NNU. She was 7-for-11 from the field.

Briaunna King had 15 points and seven rebounds and Janee Olds chipped in 11 points for the Crusaders (2-1).

The Warriors will play Central Washington on Saturday at 1 p.m. Central Washington (0-3) lost to Colorado Christian 81-70 on Friday.
