ARCATA — Two weeks after earning a one-sided win over the same team, Northwest Nazarene had to battle to the game's final moments to defeat Cal State Stanislaus, 62-53, in the opening game of the Humboldt State Classic on Friday.
With her team leading by four points and just under two minutes remaining, Kristin Hein hit a pair of free throws and then nailed a jumper to provide a cushion for the Crusaders. Hein ended the game with 20 points to lead all scorers, while teammates Janee Olds and Kat Schulte to Buhne added 10 points each.
Katie Busi led Cal State Stanislaus with 13 points and 13 rebounds, posting the only double-double of the game from any player.

Christin Gowan each scored 10 points for the Warriors.
Cal State Stanislaus led by two points at the 5 minutes, 45 seconds mark of the second half when
Sarah Olson converted a putback. But Olds drained a 3-pointer and the Crusaders didn't trail the rest of the way.
The Warriors actually outshot Northwest Nazarene in the second half, 29 percent to 28.1 percent, but it was the 3-point shooting by the Crusaders that did the Warriors in.
The Warriors lost to Northwest Nazarene earlier this season during the Thanksgiving Classic in Nampa, Idaho, by a score of 79-58.
In other Humboldt State Classic Tournament action Friday, the host Lumberjacks defeated Notre Dame de Namur, 71-60.
Northwest Nazarene improved to 6-1 overall heading into Saturday's matchup against host Humboldt State at 7:30 p.m. Cal State Stanislaus fell to 1-4 and will play Notre Dame de Namur at 5:30 p.m. Saturday when the Humboldt State Classic continues.
