Warriors clinch CCAA tourney berth with win

LOS ANGELES -- The Cal State Stanislaus women's basketball team will be going to the California Collegiate Athletic Association Championship Tournament.

Katie Busi scored 19 points and Lysandra Williams 9 points as the Warriors defeated Cal State L.A., 61-55, Saturday night. With the win the Warriors clinched a spot in the conference postseason tournament.

Cal State Stanislaus improves to 13-12 overall and 8-10 in the CCAA. The Warriors are currently in sixth place in the standings and can finish no worse than eighth with two games remaining.

The Warriors recovered from a 13-point first half deficit and outscored the Golden Eagles 33-25 in the second half for the win. Antwinette Turner's jumper with 16:19 in the second half gave Stanislaus the first lead and the Warriors never looked back.

A 6-0 run in the next three minutes would give the Warriors an 8-point lead en route to the win.

CSUS out-rebounded the Golden Eagles 48-33 with Williams leading with 10 rebounds. Turner finished with nine rebounds and Jeanette Rowe pulled seven rebounds.

Amber Whittington led Cal State L.A. (4-21, 3-15 CCAA) with 17 points.

The Warriors will travel to Chico State Wednesday night before hosting the regular season finale Friday versus UC San Diego. The first round of the CCAA tournament begins the following Tuesday, March 3.
