TURLOCK — Without its two-time All-CCAA player, the Cal State Stanislaus women's basketball team was ice cold shooting from the floor. Despite hanging close early with the second-place Cal Poly Pomona Broncos, the Warriors dropped a 51-36 low-scoring affair Friday night.
Lysandra Williams had 18 points and 10 rebounds as the Warriors dropped to 10-10 overall and 5-8 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association. The Broncos improved to 14-8 overall and 10-3 in the CCAA. Cal Poly Pomona remains in second place, three games behind UC San Diego.
CSUS stays in sixth place heading into tomorrow night's match-up against Cal State San Bernardino. The Coyotes lost their eighth straight game Friday night at Chico State (58-46).
Friday night, the Warriors just couldn't get much offense going early, shooting just 17.4 percent in the first half on 4 of 23 attempts. It wasn't much better in the second half (28 percent) before finishing with a 22.9 percent shooting night.
After remaining close in the first half, the Warriors trailed 13 early in the second half. Stanislaus cut the Pomona lead down to seven at 37-30 at the 7:54 mark, but would not come any closer.
Williams did her part, going 7-for-19 for 18 points and 10 rebounds for her first double-double.
Katie Busi had eight points and 10 rebounds, but no other Warriors had more than three points (
Antwinette Turner).
