Turlock - In a pivotal CCAA contest Cal State Stanislaus held off Cal State San Bernardino in double overtime behind a career high 35 points from sophomore
Katie Busi. With the win the Warriors improve to 11-10 overall and 6-8 in the CCAA, while the Coyotes drop to 7-13 and 5-9.
The last time these two teams met in early January at San Bernardino the game also could not be decided in regulation with the Coyotes coming out on top 46-43 in one overtime period. However, this time the Warriors were able to secure the victory after letting opportunities in the second half and overtime slip away.
In the second overtime period Busi took over scoring eight of the teams 15 points and pulled down three key rebounds. With the scored knotted at 71 with just over three minutes left, the Warriors went on a 9-0 run in a period of one minute and 50 seconds to open up the game and seal the victory. It was the ninth straight loss for the Coyotes who began CCAA play with a 5-0 mark.
Busi's 35 points are tied for the fourth most points scored in a single game in Warrior history and only three-time All-American Shannon Donnelly has scored more. In addition to her 35 points, Busi pulled down 11 rebounds and recorded two blocks. She was 12-for-24 from the field and made 11 of 14 free throws. She now has seven double-doubles on the season.
"I am just trying to help the team," said Busi, "this was a big win for us, hopefully we can take this momentum on road".
Lysandra Williams scored 13 points,
Antwinette Turner added 11 and
Christin Gowan chipped in with 10.
Krstal Urzua led the Coyotes with 19 points and 10 rebounds.
The Warriors will be on the road for the next five contests and will not return home until the final regular season game on February 27 against UC San Diego.
