TURLOCK — In a battle of the Warriors during an early-season non-conference match, it was the Cal State Stanislaus group that eventually pulled out a lengthy fight. The William Jessup Warriors rallied from 0-2 to force a game five before the home Warriors prevailed.

Lianne Vicchio had 15 kills and Melissa Bishop was huge at the net as Cal State Stanislaus improved to 3-2 with a 25-21, 25-18, 25-27, 22-25, 15-5 victory Tuesday night at Warrior Arena.

Setter Colleen Sullivan had 47 assists to lead the offense. It was the most assists in a match by any Warrior since Sept. 21, 2007 when Sullivan herself had 48 against Cal State Dominguez Hills. It is also a new school record for assists in a match during the 25-point era.

"It was a great battle. Give (William Jessup) some credit for hanging in and battling back down 0-2," CSUS head coach Christina Lore said. "I am glad that our younger kids also hung in there and fought through the end."

It was an evenly played match between the two sides with Stanislaus taking the first two. In the third, after holding off three William Jessup set-points, the WJU squad finally got a CSUS attacking error and a Jennifer McNamara kill to win.

Tied at 21-21 in the fourth, McNamara again started a rally to lead Jessup (3-2) to a 25-22 win to force game five. McNamara finished with a match-best 18 kills. Corrisa Jacomini of Modesto had 35 digs to lead all players.

Stanislaus, however, was dominant in the fifth set, rolling off to a 7-3 lead with four kills by Janay Bankston. Vicchio and Andrea Fett then took over the offense each putting away three kills to finish off the visiting Warriors, 15-5.

Vicchio also had 22 digs and four aces on the night. Bishop had 14 kills to go with eight total blocks (seven assisted) to control the net-play. Jennifer Marsh added nine kills, Bankston ended up with 11 and libero Amanda Pielstick had 25 digs.

Cal State Stanislaus will play the second of its third home match this week on Wednesday when it hosts Dominican at 5 p.m. Stanislaus beat Dominican, 3-1, on Saturday at the Seawolf Spike tournament in Rohnert Park.
