ARCATA -- Chalk it up as a successful season-opening road trip for the Cal State Stanislaus men's soccer team.
After giving No. 11 Sonoma State a scare on Friday, the Warriors continued the toughest road trip in the California Collegiate Athletic Association with a 3-1 victory at Humboldt State's Redwood Bowl on Sunday.
The Warriors got goals from
Keeyan Ghazanfarpour,
Oscar Ramirez and
Victor Regalado to helped the team improve to 4-1-0 overall and 1-1-0 in CCAA play. Humboldt State dropped to 1-4-1, 0-2-0.
"It was a very physical game; I am proud of boys today," CSUS head coach
Dana Taylor said. "It is a difficult place to play with size of the field and the turf. The guys battled for all 90 minutes."
It was Stanislaus's fifth consecutive win over Humboldt State since the end of the 2006 season. The Warriors are now 5-1 against HSU since the Jacks joined the CCAA.
Trailing 1-0, Ghazanfarpour's free kick at 55:56 was deflected off the side of HSU defending wall into the net for the Warrior's first score.
"The boys really became men today," Taylor added. "They had a few moments in the game where they really had to show composure. I am proud of how they came back after being down one goal."
Ramirez gave CSUS the lead in the 63rd minute as he chipped in a shot from 10 yards out over Humboldt goalkeeper Kyle Verle.
Stanislaus scoring leader Regalado then knocked in his sixth goal of the season at 76:42. Regalado dribbled in alone and found the net on the far post for the final margin.
Javier Rosales had four saves in the first half and
Steven Waite picked up two saves and the win in the second half for the Warriors.
Stanislaus matched last season's win totals with its fourth win. On Friday, the Warriors played No. 11 Sonoma State to a 2-2 tie until the second half before losing 3-2 in Rohnert Park.
After an away game at Chico State on Wednesday, the Warriors return home to host UC San Diego on Friday as California State University, Stanislaus celebrates the grand opening of the Student Recreation Complex, which includes Warrior Stadium.
