TURLOCK -- It is apparent early on in the 2009 campaign that the Cal State Stanislaus men's soccer team is a second half team, which showed in a major way Friday afternoon.

Trailing 1-0 after halftime, the Warriors' Victor Regalado scored two goals in the second half, the last one coming with just 50 seconds left on the clock, to give the Warriors a 2-1 victory over the UC San Diego Tritons.

The Warriors' victory evened their California Collegiate Athletic Association record at 2-2 and moved their overall record to 5-2. The Warriors' five wins are the most they have had since 2006 when the team notched 10 victories and qualified for the CCAA Championship Tournament. The loss was the first of the season for UC San Diego, and drops its record to 3-1-3 overall and 0-1-2 in the CCAA.

"I thought it was a tale of two different halves," Warriors head coach Dana Taylor said. "We still have a problem to date in doing what we say we're going to do."

With the score knotted at 1-1 and the last minute of the second half ticking off the clock, UC San Diego was called for a foul that gave the Warriors an indirect free kick just outside the goalkeeper box. Edgar Santana fired the kick on the ground directly at the goal. The kick was saved by Tritons goalkeeper Peter Akman, but Regalado chipped the rebound up into the top right corner for the game-winning goal.

"In the second half the guys played with their heart and battled, and for 45 minutes showed that we can do what we say we can do," said Taylor

UC San Diego gave it everything it could in the final seconds. The Tritons created an opportunity right after the restart following the Warriors' goal. The ball was kicked around inside the goalkeeper box and a desperation header by Chris Gutierrez went right into the hands of second half goalkeeper Steven Waite to end the match.

Regalado's game-tying goal came in the 54th minute off of a corner kick from Oscar Ramirez. Ramirez's kick went to the far side of the 'keeper box and Regalado leaped up to head the ball in for the score.

UC San Diego got on the board first when Daniel Pavitt found net in the 15th minute off a free kick from inside the center circle. Miscommunication between the Warriors defense allowed the ball to roll untouched into the goal for a 1-0 Tritons lead.

"We have got to close the gap between our actions and our words, and never can we let an opponent dictate in our house the way we were dictated to in the first half," Taylor added.

The Warriors locked down and kept UC San Diego off the board for the rest of the game, despite being outshot 15-6 in the first half. Javier Rosales made four saves for the Warriors in the opening half.

The Warriors continue their homestand at 11:30 a.m. Sunday as they take on new CCAA member Cal State East Bay.
