CARSON -- It was a much closer match than what the final score show on Friday at Cal State Dominguez Hills. But the inconsistencies in the second half hurt the Warriors.

The defending national champion Toros scored four unanswered goals -- three of them within eight minutes -- to beat Cal State Stanislaus 4-1 Friday night at University Stadium in Carson.

Cal State Dominguez Hills improved to 5-3-1 overall and 4-2-1 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association. Cal State Stanislaus dropped to 6-3, 3-3 CCAA.

"These are the problems when we are building a team, the inconsistencies this season with the three loses has been what's hurting us. Tonight was no exception," CSUS head coach Dana Taylor said.

Trevor Grimbleby scored in the 19th minute and the Warriors led for the next 50 minutes until Dominguez Hills tied it. Kevin Gallaugher, the 2008 CCAA male athlete of the year, sent in the equalizer at 68:20.

Grimbleby's goal was a bicycle kick score that came from an Oscar Ramirez corner kick at 18:28.

Then the Toros scored three times within an eight-minute window to pull away. First it was Andrew Marinez's fourth goal of the season in the 77th minute, then Greg Piechota netted a goal less than three minutes later and in the 85th minute, Brian Alvarez knocked in the fourth score.

"The second half was much like what's happened before, we couldn't finish off the game," Taylor said. "We made some poor decisions defensively in the second half and it cost us greatly. But what was really unfortunate was our team stopped playing after their second goal."

The Warriors' offense was up to the task in the first half against the 2008 NCAA Division II National Champions, but CSUDH goalie Markus Dickerson had four saves to keep the match at 1-0 in favor of Stanislaus at the break. Dickerson ended up with seven saves for the match.

"In the first half we moved the ball really well, it was some of the best soccer we played to date," Taylor said. "The guys were motivated to play and stuck with the game plan."

Warrior goalkeeper Steven Waite had five saves for the match.

Cal State Stanislaus will take on No. 3 Cal State L.A. on Sunday at 11:30 a.m.
