TURLOCK -- Neka Mixon scored 29 points and grabbed 12 rebounds as the Cal State Dominguez Hills Toros rallied late to defeat Cal State Stanislaus, 71-68, Friday night at Warrior Arena.
Also contributing for the Toros was Barbara Houston with 18 points and 10 rebounds as CSUDH improved to 5-10 overall and 4-6 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association.
The Warriors had four players in double figures in scoring and led for most of the game before dropping to 3-11 overall and 2-8 in the CCAA.
Katie Busi and
Alishea Kelly each had 17 points while
Christin Gowan added 13 to the total.
Ebony Mims-Johnson scored 10 points for Stanislaus. Busi also grabbed eight rebounds, but the Warriors were out-rebounded 31 to 24 for the game.
Stanislaus led by as many as 12 points in the first half and maintained a lead throughout. The Warriors used a 7-0 run to start the second half to build a 44-32 lead at 17:31.
However a 13-2 CSUDH run ensued that turned it into a close game. Nixon's layup at 15:13 pulled the Toros within two, 47-45, with 15:13 to go.
Dominguez Hills would take its first lead with seven minutes to go on a Houston score that made it 56-55, but a three-pointer by Mims-Johnson and a free throw by Busi allowed CSUS to take a three-point lead.
After the Toros regained the lead, the Warriors would tie the game three times, including at 68-68 with 27 seconds left on a Kelly jumper.
Nixon, however, would drive the baseline on the next Toros possession and rolled in a layup for the win.
The Warriors will try to rebound on Saturday when they host Cal State L.A. The Golden Eagles beat Chico State, 58-54, in Chico Friday night.
