HAYWARD —
Alishea Kelly turned in an all-around game and the Warriors scored 57 second-half points as the Cal State Stanislaus women's basketball team ended a six-game losing streak with a 93-64 pounding of Cal State East Bay.
Kelly had 26 points, nine rebounds, three blocks, two assists and four steals in leading the Warriors. Cal State Stanislaus picked up its first California Collegiate Athletic Association win and improved to 2-7 overall and 1-4 in conference play.
Katie Busi pulled 21 rebounds — 10 of them offensive — and scored 14 points with two blocks and three assists for another double-double game. It was her seventh double-double in nine games this season.
Andreanna Marshall had 20 points and four steals to pace the Warriors.
Two other Warriors also scored double-digits as
Jeanette Rowe and
Christin Gowan each chipped in 13 points.
Kelly was 9-for-18 from the field and made all seven of her free throws. She is now averaging 21.0 points in three games.
Cal State East Bay (0-11, 0-6 CCAA) led 47-36 at the half after shooting 55.6 percent in the first 20 minutes of play. A three-pointer by Emmily Valenziano to start the second half gave the Pioneers an 11-point lead.
However, that was the pretty much the end of the night for the CSUEB offense as the Warriors out-scored the Pioneers 57-17 in the second half.
After Valenziano's three-pointer, Cal State Stanislaus went on a 20-0 run to mound a six-point, 56-50 lead. Marshall accounted for seven of those points during that four-and-a-half minute stretch.
Seven minutes later, a Kelly jumper blew the Stanislaus lead up to 20 at 78-58 as Stanislaus went 22-for-44 from the field for the huge second half surge.
Valenziano led CSUEB with 14 points and Natalie Montes had 10 points and 12 rebounds.
The 29-point win is the Warriors' largest margin of victory since beating Cal State Monterey Bay, 93-42, to start the 2001-02 season. Stanislaus had a 28-point win (74-46) over Cal State L.A. on Feb. 9, 2007.
