No. 9 UCSD powers past Warrior women

LA JOLLA -- One night after scoring 93 points, the Warriors were shutdown and limited to 38.

The ninth-ranked UC San Diego women's basketball team outscored Cal State Stanislaus 39-14 in the second period en route to a convincing 72-38 win on Saturday night at RIMAC Arena. The Tritons opened the half on a decisive 26-2 run to take control and knock off the Warriors for the 13th straight meeting.

UCSD improves to 12-0 overall in 2009-10 and 7-0 in California Collegiate Athletic Association play. The Tritons, who are in the midst of the best start in program history, are now three wins shy of matching the 2008-09 squad, which won 15 straight from December 20-February 13.

Cal State Stanislaus falls to 2-8 overall and 1-5 in the CCAA.

Katie Busi scored eight points and pulled down eight boards before fouling out for the Warriors, while Jeanette Rowe finished with eight points, two assists, and three steals.

UCSD was dominant in the second half, holding the Warriors to just 14 points after they scored 57 in the final 20 minutes of a 93-64 win at Cal State East Bay on Thursday. The Triton defense limited Stanislaus to just 17% shooting and forced 10 turnovers in the period.

The Tritons held a 33-24 lead at halftime before scoring 26 of the first 28 points to start the second stanza. UCSD scored 19 straight at one point, turning a 40-26 advantage into a commanding 23-point margin. Daisy Feder and Erin Grady combined for four three-pointers during the stretch as the Tritons put the game away with roughly 10 minutes to play.

UCSD's offense shot 50% (14-28) in the half and finished at 42% (24-57) for the game. The Tritons held a 50-33 advantage on the backboards and outscored the Warriors 32-10 off the bench.
