ROHNERT PARK – The Cal State Stanislaus men's soccer team was unable to pull out a win against Sonoma State Sunday afternoon in a California Collegiate Athletic Association match.
After the 3-4 loss the Warriors fall to 6-3-3 overall and 5-3-2 in the CCAA and are now ranked third in the North Division. Sonoma State has improved to 8-4-0, 6-4-0 in conference play and move into second place in the North Division.
The Warriors took an early lead over the Seawolves when Jio Santana scored a goal in the seventh minute of the game. From a cross by Victor Regalado, Santana went one on one with the keeper before shooting into the net.
Brady Marshall added to the Warrior excitement when he scored Cal State Stanislaus' second goal in the 23rd minute. Marshall defeated the Seawolves defender before chipping the ball in over Sonoma keeper, Juan Sosa.
In the final minute of the first half, Sonoma's Ebby Lombardi scores to bring the Warrior lead to one goal. Within the first 10 minutes of the second half the Seawolves took the lead with a goal by Aaron Glover at 51:02 and Erick Delgado put another in at 52:07.
Marshall once again came up strong for Stanislaus, from the foot of Manny Avily, Marshall takes a shot off of his left foot that curves around the goal keeper and into the bottom left corner of the net.
Sonoma State takes the lead once again when Trevor Hurst puts a ball into the bottom right corner of the net in the 75th minute. The Seawolves defense held off the Warriors for the final 15 minutes and captured the win.
The Warriors took a total of 15 shots on the day, five on-goal attempts. Santana's goal was his fourth season goal and Marshall now has four goals on the season.
The Warriors will be on the road again next weekend when they travel to play Cal State East Bay Friday at 7 p.m. and UC San Diego Sunday at 2 p.m.
