TURLOCK -- The seventh-ranked UC San Diego women's basketball team was red hot from the start as the Tritons defeated Cal State Stanislaus 83-60 Friday night.
Chelsea Carlisle had 17 points and the Tritons shot nearly 60 percent for the game as the Tritons improved to 20-1 overall and 15-1 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association.
Alishea Kelly scored 17 and
Katie Busi had 13 points and eight rebounds to lead Stanislaus (5-16, 4-13 CCAA).
UC San Diego scored the game's first 10 points and at one point shot nearly 80 percent from the field during the first half. The closest the Warriors got was when Kelly's jumper made it 21-16 with 10:08 to play.
The Tritons led by as many as 26 points in the first half after a 16-4 run and led 48-26 at the break. UCSD didn't cool down much in the second half and saw its largest lead at 32 after a Magdalena Usher three-pointer to make it 77-45 at 7:04 left.
In the opening half, UC San Diego finished with 18 of 26 from the field and 5 of 7 from the three-point arch. The Tritons were also 7 for 9 from the charity line. They finished the game with a 59.6 shooting percentage.
Christin Gowan also chipped in 10 points with four assists for the Warriors.
Saturday night's game against Cal State East Bay is the annual WBCA Pink Zone night as the Warriors take part in the national event, joining many collegiate programs across the country promoting breast cancer awareness. Fans wearing pink will be admitted for free with a minimum of $2 donation to the Kay Yow Cancer Fund. Tipoff is a 5:30 p.m.
